I recently got a bunch of blood oranges in my farm box. And, I love their flavor in drinks like my Blood Orange Blackberry Fizz. So, I knew I wanted to make a homemade Blood Orange Lemonade as the weather is starting to get warmer out.
This homemade lemonade is a vibrant twist on classic organic lemonade, blending the bold citrus tang of traditional lemons with the rich, berry-like sweetness of blood oranges! This refreshing Blood Orange Lemonade stands out immediately for its ruby red color — which comes naturally from the anthocyanins found in blood oranges—a pigment not present in regular lemons.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Bold Flavor: The flavor is deeper and more complex than traditional homemade lemonade, with subtle raspberry and floral notes that make it feel both luxurious and refreshing.
- Sweet and Tart: Unlike regular homemade lemonade, which relies solely on the sharp acidity of lemons, this Blood Orange Lemonade has a balanced flavor profile that’s both tart and sweet.
- Many Uses: You can enjoy this Blood Orange Lemonade all on its own for delicious homemade lemonade. Or, you can use this organic lemonade as a mixer for cocktails as well!

Ingredients
- Cane Sugar: You’ll need organic cane sugar to make simple syrup, which is how we are sweetening this organic lemonade.
- Blood Oranges: You’ll need blood oranges for that bright ruby color and unique flavor. But, if you don’t have blood oranges, regular oranges will also work and will still make a delicious homemade lemonade but with oranges!
- Lemons: You can juice lemons to get lemon juice or you can also use lemon juice form a bottle, either works for this organic lemonade.
Tools Needed
- Scale: Always use a digital food scale for the best results.
- Small Pot: You’ll need a small pot to heat the simple syrup.
- Whisk: You'll need a whisk to mix together the sugar and water for the simple syrup.
- Juicer: I use a simple juicer to juice the blood oranges. A hand juicer also works too.
- Pitcher: You’ll need a large pitcher to store the finished organic lemonade in.

FAQ’s
You can, but the flavor and color will be different. The addition of oranges combined with homemade lemonade is also delicious, but it will be a little more sweet as I feel the blood oranges are not as sweet as traditional oranges.
It will stay good in the fridge for up to a week.
