Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Healthy: This homemade burger recipe strikes the perfect balance between nutritious and indulgent — proof that eating well doesn’t mean giving up your favorite comfort foods.
Protein Packed: Organic ground turkey is loaded with protein. The additional of nutritional yeas also adds even more protein, making this a high protein meal.
Versatile: While I make BBQ Turkey Burgers, you can also use traditional burger toppings like ketchup, mustard, or spread.

Ingredients & Health Benefits
- Ground Turkey: I use organic ground turkey as it’s a lean protein option for a nostalgic meal.
- Spices: I use salt, black pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder to give these organic turkey burgers flavor.
- Nutritional Yeast: I use organic nutritional yeast inside these turkey burgers. This provides a cheesy like flavor, without dairy, but with added protein and amino acids!
- Butter: I use Organic Valley Salted Butter for the onions for flavor and to ensure they don't stick to the pan. If you prefer to use EVOO or ghee you can also do that.
- Onion: I use organic yellow onion for the grilled onions, which gives these BBQ Turkey Burgers so much added flavor! Onions are also high in antioxidants.
- Leafy Greens: I use a spring mix that includes spinach and other leafy greens. This type of lettuce is right in antioxidants, iron, vitamin C, K, and more.
- Pickles: I'm currently obsessed with Target's Good and Gather Organic Bread and Butter Pickles, which are little sandwich chips. They are one of the only organic pickles you can buy without natural flavors and they're so good!
- BBQ Sauce: I use my homemade BBQ Sauce with Bone Broth which has the added health benefits of protein, nutrients, collagen, and more.

Tools Needed
- Cutting Board: You’ll need a cutting board to chop the onions.
- Knife: Use a sharp knife to get them super thin.
- Mixing Bowl: I use a mixing bowl to mix all the spices together for these BBQ Turkey Burgers.
- Large Skillet: I use my GreenPan Skillet, but a cast iron also works. You can even make these turkey burgers on the grill if you want!

Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Make the grill onions: Slice the yellow onion thin.
Add the butter to a large skillet and put over medium/high heat. Once the butter melts, add the onions and sauté until the onions are translucent and golden. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 2
Make the burgers: In a large mixing bowl, add the ground turkey, nutritional yeast, salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder and mix together.
Divide the ground turkey into 2 burgers (weight 4 ounces each). Form into a large patty that is about 4 to 5 inches in diameter.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the burgers and cook for about 3 to 4 minutes per side.
Step 3
Assemble the burgers: Lightly toast the buns. Add the leafy greens onto the bottom bun. Top with the turkey burger, grilled onions, pickles, and BBQ sauce (or condiments of choice!).

Tips
- While I’m using ground turkey, these can also be made with ground chicken or even ground beef too.
- Making the grilled onions is optional, but I think they really add so much flavor to these turkey burgers!
- I don’t use any oil in the pan when cooking the burgers as my GreenPan works really well without. But, if you’re using a stainless steel pan you may want to add a little EVOO to ensure they don’t stick.
- I use a sesame bun, but you can also use a whole wheat or white bun if you prefer.
FAQ's
Yes, you can make these burgers with ground chicken or ground beef.
You can skip this if you don't have it. Or you can also do some grated parmesan, which will have a similar flavor.
Yes, if you want to add cheese, place your cheese slice on top of the burgers as soon as you flip them. This will give it the perfect amount of time to melt.
