I am so excited to share this recipe for soft Peanut Butter Dog Cookies! I created this recipe for my first Pug, Otto, when he was just a pup. He had some allergies, and I realized that so many dog treats weren’t even that good for dogs!

So, I created this recipe for oat and peanut butter dog treats. Then, I started baking these at my bake shop as well, because our motto was always Dessert for Everyone and that included dogs! And, I realized that people wanted to eat cookies like Eggless Monster Cookies while also giving their cookies at the same time. Matching desserts are just as cool as matching outfits.

This recipe for Peanut Butter Dog Cookies is also in my book, Cookies for Everyone, and Otto has a cameo in it! These simple oat and peanut butter dog treats are soft, which makes them great for older dogs or dogs who need softer treats (like Dog Friendly Whipped Cream). And, this recipe has simple ingredients you probably already have in your pantry that are safe for dogs!

Ingredients

  • Peanut Butter: I use organic peanut butter, the same one that we eat. Just be sure when you are sharing peanut butter with your dog that it only has peanuts (and salt is okay too). Avoid all peanut butters with added oils, sugars, or flavors. Especially ensure peanut butter does not have xiloytol as this is incredibly toxic to dogs.
  • Honey: I use organic raw honey which is a great natural sweetener for dog treats.
  • Eggs: These bind these soft dog treats together!

Tips for Bakery Famous Soft Peanut Butter Dog Cookies

  • Make sure you are using dog safe peanut butter. Don't use crunchy, only creamy as dogs cannot digest whole nuts. Also, avoid all sugars, flavors, seed oils and xylitol as it is incredibly toxic to dogs.
  • If your eggs are smaller or larger, the cookie dough can be affected. Eggs that are too small may make it dry, eggs that are too large can make it too sticky. So, it's key to use large eggs.
  • You can make these smaller or bigger, just adjust the baking time by a minute or two either way.
  • If you want to roll these out and cut them into bones or shapes, you can also do that.
  • Gluten Free — Use gluten free oats, and replace the all purpose flour with 155 grams (1 cup) gluten free flour blend.
  • High Altitude — Bake at 375°f for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are slightly brown.

Recipe FAQ's

Can I freeze homemade peanut butter dog cookies?

Yes! I freeze them all time, and I take them out when needed. They thaw quickly, but you can also microwave one if you need it asap, it just takes a few seconds! To freeze them, store them in a zip bag or a Tupperware in the freezer.

How should I store homemade peanut butter dog cookies?

These are soft, so they need to be stored in an airtight container. A Tupperware, zip bag, or a glass cookie jar that is airtight will work.
