I am so excited to share this recipe for Peanut Butter Dog Cookies! I created this recipe for my first Pug, Otto, when he was just a pup. He had some allergies, and I realized that so many dog treats weren’t even that good for dogs!
So, I created this recipe for oat and peanut butter dog treats. I did some research on what dogs could eat, and what was good for them, and I created this recipe for Peanut Butter Dog Cookies. I started serving this at my bake shop as well, because our motto was always Dessert for Everyone and that included dogs!
This recipe for Peanut Butter Dog Cookies is also in my book, Cookies for Everyone, and Otto has a cameo in it! These simple oat and peanut butter dog treats are soft, which makes them great for older dogs or dogs who need softer food. This recipe has simple ingredients you probably already have in your pantry that are safe for dogs and even include some health benefits!
Why You'll Love This Recipe
Oats: According to AKC.org, oats are a great carb for dogs because they contain vitamin B, which helps maintain a healthy coat, and linoleic acid, which is a type of omega-6 fatty acid that helps to maintain the strength of dogs’ skin. So, adding them to cookies gives them these benefits!
Eggs: AKC.org also say that eggs provide much-needed vitamins and minerals for dogs such as iron, fatty acids, folate, protein, vitamin A and more! And, they even say that eggs should be free-range and organic – not joking here, if AKC says it, then you best be buying organic!
Peanut Butter: Dogs love peanut butter! But, be careful of the kind that you buy. AKC.org mentions that some peanut butters may have xylitol in them. This can be life threatening for dogs. So please make sure the peanut butter you use does not have this ingredient! If you are buying the organic peanut butter I recommend below, then you are all good!

So, how do you make Peanut Butter Dog Cookies? It couldn’t be easier! I add all purpose flour, oats, and baking soda to a mixing bowl. Then, add in peanut butter, honey, and eggs. Mix it up and you have dog cookie dough read to be baked!
I roll them into balls with my hands and flatten them slightly. Place them on a baking sheet and bake until they are golden brown, just like you would any other cookie. As soon as they cool, give your dog the best oat and peanut butter dog treats they’ve ever had!
Now that you know how to make Peanut Butter Dog Cookies, what are you waiting for? Your fur baby is dying to try this recipe for Peanut Butter Dog Cookies! And you’ll feel so good knowing they are eating a treat made with the best organic ingredients.
Ingredients
- Peanut Butter: I use organic peanut butter, the same one that we eat. Just be sure when you are sharing peanut butter with your dog that it only has peanuts (and salt is okay too). Avoid all peanut butters with added oils, sugars, or flavors. Especially ensure peanut butter does not have xiloytol as this is incredibly toxic to dogs.
- Honey: I use organic raw honey, which is antimicrobial and antibacterial so it's a great little treat for your pup.
- Eggs: I use organic large eggs. This ingredient can help keep your dog's coat soft and shiny. Eggs also are a good source of protein and omega-3s.
- All Purpose Flour: I use organic all purpose flour.
- Oats: I use organic rolled oats, which have fiber for your dog.
- Baking Soda: I use a little baking soda for leavening in these cookies.

Tools Needed
- Scale: Always use a digital food scale for the best results.
- Stand Mixer: I use my stand mixer for this recipe, but you can also use a hand mixer or even just a bowl with a spatula.
- Baking Sheets: You'll need two half sheet pans to bake the cookies.
- Parchment Paper: I use nontoxic parchment paper so these bake up well and don't stick to the cookie sheets.
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line 2 cookie sheets with parchment paper.
Step 2
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attach ment, add the flour, oats, and baking soda, and mix together on low for 2 to 3 turns.
Add the peanut butter, honey, and eggs, and mix on low until a stiff dough forms.
Step 3
Using your hands, form the dough into 36 balls and place them on the prepared cookie sheets, leaving 1 inch between them (18 should fit on each cookie sheet). Flatten each ball slightly. They should look like disks that are about 1 1/2-inches in diameter.
Step 4
Bake for 9 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are slightly brown. Let cool completely on the cookie sheets. (If you're baking at high altitude, be sure to check the Notes at the bottom of the recipe for high altitude instructions).
FAQ's
Of course! I usually make John John these oat and peanut butter dog treats every other week. If I have time, I make them before I need them and I freeze them.
Yes! I freeze them all time, and I take them out when needed. They thaw quickly, but you can also microwave one if you need it asap, it just takes a few seconds! To freeze them, store them in a zip bag or a Tupperware in the freezer.
These are soft, so they need to be stored in an airtight container. A Tupperware, zip bag, or a glass cookie jar that is airtight will work.
Of course you can! If you have a dog bone cookie cutter, you can roll out the dough and cut it out. This dough is also very easy to mold with your hands, and you could form them into dog bones too. But if you make them smaller or larger than the size I call for in the recipe, be sure to adjust your baking time up or down to match.
Yes! I have a simple adjustment for gluten free in the Notes section of the recipe below. Your dog can enjoy this recipe for Peanut Butter Dog Cookies even if they are gluten free!
