If you’re wondering, can dogs have granola? The answer is yes! As long as you are making homemade granola for dogs, then it’s safe to give to your dogs as you can control the ingredients to make sure they are dog friendly. You can also buy organic granola to share with your dog, but you really need to be sure you are checking the ingredient list for harmful ingredients for dogs.

Some ingredients to avoid if looking for store bought granola would be sugar, raisins, almonds, xylitol, just to name a few. Sugar is not good for dogs, almonds are also harmful to dogs, and raisins and xylitol can be poisonous to dogs. These are just a few common ingredients you may find in lots of human granola, which is why it’s always safer to make homemade granola for dogs!

Health Benefits for Your Dog

This Peanut Butter Honey Granola for Dogs is a dog friendly granola recipe that your pup will love! It starts with oats, coconut, and quinoa as the base, all of which are safe and full of nutrients for your dog. I use honey, peanut butter, and coconut oil to coat this granola while it bakes into delicious little snack size clumps.

Oats provide fiber, iron, zinc, and B vitamins that help with your dogs coat, skin, and promote digestion. Coconut boosts immune system, promotes healthy skin and shiny coat, and so much more! Quinoa is a great complex carb for dogs as it has amino acids, calcium, B vitamins, vitamin E and more!

Dogs love peanut butter, so I give this homemade granola for dogs a peanut butter flavor by mixing it with coconut oil and honey. The honey is a great ingredient for dogs because it is full of antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties that can help your dog with allergy symptoms, skin issues, and reduce inflammation. Honey is a great ingredient for overall done immunity and health! Coconut oil is a great fat for dogs as it can improve brain energy and mental function, especially in older dogs.

So, if I haven’t convinced you to make this Peanut Butter Honey Granola for Dogs simply because your dog will love it – hopefully all these amazing health benefits of homemade granola for dogs will convince you!

Ingredients

  • Oats: I use organic rolled oats, the same ones I buy for me. If your pup is gluten free, you can use certified gluten free oats too.
  • Coconut: I use organic unsweetened wide flake coconut in this recipe. This is key because some coconut can have added sugars, so be sure to check.
  • Quinoa: I use organic quinoa for added protein and nutrients. You
  • Peanut Butter: Be sure to use an organic creamy peanut butter. Stay away from crunchy peanut butters as dogs cannot digest whole nuts well at all, so those can cause an upset stomach. Also be sure to buy peanut butter without any added sugar, flavor, or xylitol as xylitol is extremely toxic to dogs.
  • Honey: I use organic raw honey which is antimicrobial and antibacterial. This also helps the granola form clusters.
  • Coconut Oil: I use organic coconut oil for the fat, and this helps the granola form clusters.
