Health Benefits of Pumpkin for Dogs
Pumpkin is a superfood for your dog! It’s an ingredient they can eat every single day! Pumpkin is loaded with antioxidants, fiber, vitamins A, C, and E, as well as potassium and iron! Pumpkin can help aid in digestion, it can help with constipation, and it will boost their immune system! It’s also beneficial for their eyes, bones, and muscles.
Ingredients
- Coconut Oil: I use organic coconut oil as this is a great fat for dogs. This can help improve their skin and coat.
- Honey: Organic raw honey is antimicrobial and antibacterial which can help with dogs allergies!
- Pumpkin: Organic pumpkin is a superfood for dogs! This has antioxidants, cancer fighting properties, and it helps keep their tummy happy.
- All Purpose Flour: I use organic all purpose flour.
- Coconut: Organic coconut is a great fat for dogs. I use organic unsweetened fine shredded coconut here. Always use unsweetened coconut for baking for your dog.
- Coconut Milk: I use organic coconut milk as coconut is a great fat for dogs. Just be sure you're using a coconut milk like Jiva Organics that doesn't have any added sweeteners or flavors.
- Baking Powder: I use baking powder for leavening.
- Greek Yogurt: Plain organic Greek yogurt is full of probiotics for your pup! They will love this as the frosting to these donuts. Be sure to buy plain Greek yogurt and nothing with any added sugars or flavors. If you can't get plain Greek yogurt, plain yogurt also works.
Tools Needed
- Scale: Always use a digital food scale for the best results.
- Small Pot: I use a small pot to melt the coconut oil. You could also do this in a microwave safe bowl if you prefer.
- Mixing Bowl: I make these in a mixing bowl, making this an easy one bowl recipe.
- Spatula: I just use a spatula to mix these together.
- Donut Pan: You’ll need a mini donut pan for this recipe. If you have a larger dog, you could also use a regular size donut pan too.
- Piping Bag: I pipe the batter into the donut pan with a piping bag. If you don’t have one you can use a zip bag or even just spoon in the batter.
- Quarter Sheet Pan: I use my 360 Cookware Stainless Steel Jelly Roll Pan for toasting the coconut.
- Parchment Paper: I use my favorite nontoxic parchment paper for toasting the coconut. Use code MIMIBAKES for a discount.

Baker’s Tips
- I use a mini donut pan here because John John is small! You could also use a regular size donut pan if you have a larger dog as well.
- If you don’t have coconut milk, you can also use oat milk as long as the only ingredients are oats and water.
- I grease the donut pan with just a little coconut oil. But, you could also use an olive oil cooking spray if you have that as it’s also safe for dogs so long as the only ingredient is olive oil.
- Be sure to use organic plain Greek yogurt. Don’t use any yogurt with flavors or sugars as those are harmful to dogs.
FAQ’s
Yes, if you have a larger dog feel free to use a regular size donut pan.
No, you can totally leave the “frosting” off. Your dog will still love them!
