  • Peanut Butter: I use organic creamy peanut butter for the base as it makes these so tasty for dogs! Make sure to use dog safe peanut butter, which is organic and only has 2 ingredients (peanuts and salt). Make sure to avoid xylitol as this is incredibly toxic to dogs. Other ingredients to avoid are added sugars, flavors, and seed oils. Also, do not use crunchy peanut butter as dog’s cannot digest nuts very well and it can cause GI upset. I always use Costco Organic Peanut Butter!
  • Mushroom Powder: The secrete ingredient in this recipe is Four Leaf Rover Seven ‘Shrooms mushroom blend.
  • Flour: I use a mix of all purpose flour, oat flour, and Wildly Organic Coconut Flour which are all dog safe flours for making homemade dog treats.

Recipe FAQ’s

Is peanut butter safe for dogs?

Yes, peanut butter is safe for dogs in moderation which is why it's perfect for treats.

What kind of peanut butter is best for dogs?

It's best use an organic creamy peanut butter with minimal ingredients. I use the Costco Kirkland Organic Peanut Butter, this only has organic peanuts and salt as the ingredients. You don't want to use a crunchy peanut butter as dogs can't digest whole nuts well. And, you want to avoid peanut butters with other added ingredients such as sugars, flavors, seed oils, and especially xylitol. Xylitol is toxic to dogs and it can be in some peanut butters.

Can peanut butter be dangerous for dogs?

Yes, if it has xylitol as that is toxic to dogs. Other ingredients such as seed oils and sugar can just cause inflammation and your dog does not need those. Stick to an organic peanut butter with just peanuts and salt as the only two ingredients.

How many peanut butter dog treats can I give my dog?

These are treats, so they should be fed in moderation. Depending on how small or big your dog is, you can adjust what is right for them. Treats for dogs are just like treats for humans, they should only make up a small portion of their daily diet.

Can dogs eat peanut butter treats every day?

They can if it's a small amount.

What if I don’t have mushroom powder?

If you don’t have the mushroom powder, you can just omit it for plain peanut butter dog treats. If the dough feels a little sticky, just add a tablespoon of flour. Or, you can try another peanut butter dog treat recipe like our Peanut Butter Honey Granola for Dogs or Frozen Peanut Butter Dog Treats.

Are these treats or a complete meal?

These are dog treats, they are not a complete meal. You can give your dog a small amount in addition to a balanced meal.

Why are my dog treats too hard?

These are crunchy peanut butter treats, but if they are too hard then you over baked them.

How do I make softer dog treats?

You can under bake these to make them a bit softer. But, if you are looking for softer treats, check out Pumpkin Peanut Butter Dog Cookies as these are meant to be soft.

Are peanut butter dog treats good for training?

Yes, because dogs love peanut butter these can be a high reward treat. If you are going to use these for training, you'll want to break them into tiny pieces.

Can puppies eat peanut butter dog treats?

Yes, they can!
