Ingredients

- Sourdough Hot Dog Buns: I use my Homemade Sourdough Hot Dog Buns, but any hot dog buns or even sourdough bread work just fine. Another great option is Sourdough Irish Soda Bread as it's thick and soaks up the custard so well. You can just cut slices into sticks! I use this bread often for this recipe too.
- Heavy Whipping Cream: I use Organic Valley Heavy Whipping Cream, you can use your favorite. This adds a richness to this organic French toast as opposed to just using milk.
- Cinnamon: I use organic Korintje cinnamon, which is my favorite variety. Check out my post the Best Cinnamon to Bake With for more info on different cinnamon varieties.
- Maple Syrup: Use pure organic maple syrup for the best flavor!

Baker's Tips
- Trim off the ends of the hot dog buns, this creates even sticks.
- If you don't have heavy cream, you can use whole milk. But, the cream really gives these a richer flavor that pairs really well with the tangy sourdough.
- Use a shallow baking dish, like a 9 x 9-inch baking pan or even a 9 x 13-inch baking pan. This allows you to soak more sticks at one time. I soaked sticks, then put them in the skillet, and then soaked more while those were cooking. I use my Our Place baking dish which works great!
- You can freeze extra French Toast Sticks and then just heat them up in your air fryer or toaster oven. We do this as this makes a lot, and we won’t eat them all the same day. This way, we can just pull them out of the freezer when we’re craving French toast.

Recipe FAQ's
Yes, if you don't have sourdough hot dog buns on hand, you can just use any sourdough bread and cut it into sticks. I would recommend using a thicker bread though. Using a thin sandwich bread may not result in the best sticks as they may be too flimsy.
Use day old or stale bread, this will help the liquid soak in just enough and not get too soggy as if you were to use soft bread. Don't let them soak for too long either. As soon as the sticks are soaked, fry them up immediately!
Store in an airtight container in the fridge, they'll last for about 3 days. You can reheat in your air fryer or toaster oven.
