What are persimmons?
Persimmons are a fall fruit that is usually in season from October to January. They kind of look like an orange tomato and they have the texture of an apricot, with the flavor somewhere between a stone fruit and a mango. They pair really well with warm and cozy spices, perfect for fall baking.
I got persimmons in my farm box this week and I had been mulling over what to make with them. When Delaney came home with apple cider, I just knew I was going to make this Persimmon Apple Cider Jam. This homemade jam recipe combines tart apples with sweet persimmon, cozy cider, and a hint of cinnamon.
This delicious and easy fall recipe is perfect on toast or bagels for a cozy morning meal. You can also use this homemade jam recipe in cookies, like The Best Jam Thumbprint Cookie Recipe. Top Eggless Sourdough Waffles or Honey Butter Dinner Rolls too!
Ingredients

- Persimmons: I use organic persimmons, I got them in my farm box this past week!
- Apples: I use organic Granny Smith apples, but you could use any variety that you have.
- Apple Cider: My favorite is Organic Martinelli’s Apple Cider. If you don’t have apple cider, you can also use apple juice in its place.
- Cinnamon: I use organic korintje cinnamon as I think it has the best flavor. Check out the Best Cinnamon to Bake With for more info on the different kinds of cinnamon.
- Lemon Juice: A little bit of organic lemon juice is added to jam because the acid will help limit bacterial growth and extend how long the jam will last. You can use juice from a fresh lemon or even lemon juice from a bottle for ease.

Baker’s Tips
- Be sure to peel the apples. The skin on the apples won’t break down as easily as other fruit skins.
- If you don’t have a food processor you’ll need to simmer the fruit for much longer to break down the apples and persimmons more.
- This makes a great gift for the holidays! Just tie a bow around it and you're good to go.
