We made Classic Cheeseburgers last week and I thought I needed to make a dog friendly burger recipe so John John could also enjoy burgers this summer! While a traditional burger with a bun is not ideal for dogs, a Dog Burger Bowl is a great way to let your dog enjoy a burger!
For this Dog Burger Bowl recipe, I use organic grassfed ground beef. This is the same beef that we buy for ourselves when we make burgers. Just like organic grassfed ground beef is healthier for humans, it’s also healthier for dogs!
I use my Dog Friendly Sweet Potato Fries for the carb in this recipe in place of a bun. I top this burger with spinach and orange pepper (because it’s the color of cheese!). Your dog is going to love this Dog Burger Bowl!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Quick and Easy: This dog friendly burger recipe is simple and easy to make for your dog! If you’re making burgers for you, it’s easy to set aside some meat and make a burger for them!
Make Together: If you’re making burgers for yourself, you can easily make this Dog Burger Bowl for your pup with some of your burger meat.
Healthy and Nutritious: This recipe is loaded with gut healthy ingredients, vitamins, and minerals for your dog. Sweet potatoes will support healthy skin and coat. Ground beef is a great source of lean protein, and the veggies provide antioxidants.

Ingredients & Health Benefits
- Sweet Potato: Organic sweet potatoes have vitamin A, C, beta-carotene and more for your pup! They are also high in fiber which supports a healthy digestive system.
- Ground Beef: Organic grassfed ground beef is a great source of lean protein for your dog. Make sure you are buying 85/15 or 90/10 as lean protein is best. Choosing organic and grassfed will also ensure more nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids and linoleic acid which has anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties.
- Spinach: Organic spinach is a healthy leafy green for your dog. It contains iron, antioxidants, and beta-carotene.
- Bell Pepper: I use organic orange bell pepper (because it’s the color of cheese!). You can use any color, but red and orange will have the most nutrients because they have spent the most time on the vine.

Tools Needed
- Cutting Board: You'll need a cutting board to cut the orange pepper.
- Knife: You'll need a sharp knife to cut the pepper.
- Large Skillet: I cook the burger patties in a large skillet. You can also use a cast iron skillet if you prefer.

Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
To make the fries, follow my recipe for Dog Friendly Sweet Potato Fries. Make sure the fires are made ahead of time before starting the burgers.
Step 2
To make the burgers: Form the ground beef into 8 patties. You can make them larger if you have a larger dog, but I find it difficult to make them much smaller than 8. Even if you have a smaller dog, you can cut in half if need be.

Step 3
Heat a large skillet over medium/high heat. Once it’s warm, add in the burgers. Cook for about 2 to 3 minutes per side, then flip and continue cooking until done.
Step 4
Dice the desired amount of orange pepper you need for your dog.
Step 5
To assemble the burger bowl: Add the fries, burger, spinach leaves, and orange pepper. Chop everything up into small pieces so your dog can easily eat it. Serve immediately.
