Why You'll Love This Recipe

Celebrate Your Dog: You will love this dog friendly birthday cake and so will your pup! Our dogs live such short lives compared to us, so every minute is worth celebrating. Especially their birthdays! This Blueberry Peanut Butter Dog Cake is the perfect dog friendly cake to celebrate with.

Peanut Butter Cake: This easy peanut butter cake bakes up nice and fluffy in a 6-inch cake pan (discount code, use MIMIBAKES). I top it with plain peanut butter, because that is just like frosting, and dogs love it! So, it's really a true treat for them. Peanut butter is a dog safe ingredient (so long as you are buying organic peanut butter with peanuts and salt being the only ingredients).

Blueberry Topping: Then I add a bunch of fresh blueberries on top. Blueberries are so good for your dogs and John John loves them! Blueberries have antioxidants, nutrients, and more that your dog can benefit with. And they make an amazing cake topping, which makes this dog friendly birthday cake even better!

Ingredients

  • Peanut Butter: I use organic peanut butter as the base for this cake because dogs love peanut butter and it's a great treat option. Just be sure you are using organic peanut butter that doesn't have any added sugars, oils, or especially xylitol as that is incredibly toxic to dogs. A little salt in your peanut butter is just fine though.
  • Eggs: I use organic large eggs, these have protein and omega-3s for your dog and will make their skin and coat soft and shiny.
  • Coconut Milk: I use organic coconut milk in this recipe. Be sure you are using organic coconut milk that is free of added sugars, flavors, and stabilizers. Our favorite is Jiva Organics, with just one ingredient.
  • All Purpose Flour: I use organic all purpose flour for this cake.
  • Baking Powder: You'll need a little baking powder for leavening.
  • Blueberries: I top this cake with fresh organic blueberries which are a superfood for your dog! You can also use another dog friendly fruit like strawberries or bananas as well.

  • Mixing Bowl: You can use a mixing bowl with just a spatula or whisk. Or you can also use a hand mixer or stand mixer, this recipe is super flexible!
  • 6-inch Cake Pan: I bake this in a 6-inch cake pan.
  • Parchment Paper: I always line my cake pans with nontoxic parchment paper so they can easily be removed.

FAQ's

Is peanut butter good for dogs?

Peanut butter is a safe ingredient for dogs in moderation and should be treated like a treat. Always make sure you are buying organic peanut butter with no added sugars, flavors, and especially no xylitol. While sugars and flavors are not good for dogs, xylitol is extremely toxic for dogs! I always give John John the peanut butter we eat, which just has two ingredients (organic peanuts and sea salt).

Are blueberries good for dogs?

Yes! Blueberries are a superfood for your dog, just like they are for you! Blueberries have tons of antioxidants and they can also help improve brain function and memory in dogs (um, yes please, for better listening skills!).

Can I top this cake with something else?

If your dog is not a fan of blueberries, you can also top this cake with strawberries, apples, or bananas.
