Ingredients

  • Peanut Butter: The base of these homemade dog treats is organic peanut butter. Dogs love it and it's safe in moderation for your dog. Just be sure you are using organic creamy peanut butter (not chunky) as dogs cannot digest whole nuts. Also be sure your peanut butter is free of added sugars, flavors, and xylitol as xylitol is very toxic to dogs.
  • Pumpkin: I use organic pumpkin puree, which helps makes these cookies incredibly soft.
  • Oats: I use organic rolled oats which help bind these cookies along with the flour.

Baker's Tips

  • You can use the same organic pumpkin puree for your dog that you buy for you, so long as the only ingredient is pumpkin. Don't use pumpkin pie mixes as those can have added sugar and spice.
  • Make sure to use a dog friendly peanut butter that's free of added sugars, flavors and seed oils. Use creamy peanut butter (not chunky) and never give your dog peanut butter with xylitol as that is incredibly toxic for dogs.
  • You can make these cookies gluten free by using gluten free oats and a gluten free flour blend that is safe for dogs. I recommend using oat flour for the best results.
  • If using gluten free flour, be sure you don't almond flour as dog's don't digest almonds well.
  • Store in an airtight container to keep them soft and chewy.
  • You can also freeze these by storing in an airtight container in the freezer. Just pull one out to thaw when your dog needs a cookie!

Pumpkin Peanut Butter Dog Cookies FAQ's

How should I store homemade pumpkin peanut butter dog cookies?

These Pumpkin Peanut Butter Dog Cookies are soft and chewy, so they need to be kept in an airtight container so they don't dry out.

Can I freeze pumpkin peanut butter dog cookies?

Yes! If you have a small dog (like I do) who can't eat a whole batch of cookies in a week, then you can freeze them. You would freeze them just like you freeze human cookies, in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
