Why You'll Love This Recipe

Simple Ingredients: I use a few simple ingredients in this recipe for Peanut Butter Banana Dog Treats. You probably already have these ingredients in your pantry at home! It starts with a banana and peanut butter, I add in coconut oil, eggs, flour, and baking powder – that’s it! You will have a homemade dog dessert in no time!

Flexible Sizes: The best thing about these Peanut Butter Banana Dog Treats is you can cut them any size you want. Depending on the size of your dog, you may want to cut them into 16 squares, like a human blondie! I cut them into 64 tiny squares for the photos, but I actually cut each of those squares into 4 because John John is so small.

Soft and Chewy: This is a soft and chewy dog dessert. So, if you have an older dog or a dog with teeth problems, they can definitely enjoy this homemade dog treat!

Ingredients

  • Peanut Butter: I use Costco Kirkland Organic Peanut Butter, the same one we buy for us! Be sure you are using peanut butter that is safe for dogs, meaning there is no added sugars, flavors, or xylitol as this is incredibly toxic to dogs.
  • Bananas: I use organic ripe bananas, just like you'd use for your own baked goods. Bananas have fiber, potassium, B vitamins and more for your pup.
  • Coconut Oil: I use Costco Kirkland Organic Coconut Oil in this recipe, the same one I use for our cooking.
  • Eggs: I use organic large eggs, which have great health benefits for dogs like protein, omega-3s, and they can make their coat nice and shiny!
  • All Purpose Flour: I use organic all purpose flour in this recipe.
  • Baking Powder: I use Frontier Co-Op Baking Powder.

Tools Needed

  • Scale: Always use a digital food scale for the best results.
  • Mixing Bowl: You can make these in just a mixing bowl or you can also use a hand mixer or stand mixer, this recipe is super flexible.
  • Baking Pan: I'm using an 8×8-inch baking pan for these.
  • Parchment Paper: I always line my baking pans with nontoxic parchment paper, so it's easy to remove the treats without a mess or breakage.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 8 x 8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, mash up the banana with a fork. Add the peanut butter and stir (you can use a spatula, whisk or even a fork!) to combine.

Nex, add the eggs and coconut oil and mix together.

Add the flour and baking powder and mix to combine completely. Transfer to the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.

Step 3

Bake for 12 minutes, or until puffy and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. (If you're baking at high altitude, be sure to check the Notes at the bottom of the recipe for high altitude baking instructions). Cut into 64 small bites (or larger ones if you have a larger dog).

FAQ's

How do you store these Peanut Butter Banana Dog Treats?

Because I got so many of these for John John, I put a small amount in a Tupperware. They should be in an airtight container so they stay moist, you can store them at room temperature or in the fridge.

You can also freeze them, if you have a small dog and get a large quantity, like I did. Just be sure to put them in an airtight container like a Tupperware or Ziploc bag before freezing. I’ve been pulling them out of the freezer as we run out of treats, as they thaw in minutes! You can store them in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Can I use crunchy peanut butter for this recipe?

Crunchy peanut butter is not ideal for dogs because of the small bits of peanuts. Dogs can have a difficult time digesting whole nuts, which is why you shouldn't give them to your dog. Creamy peanut butter is best!
