A Quick Look At The Recipe

  • Recipe Name: Easy Bone Broth Rice
  • Ready In: 25 minutes
  • Makes: 2 cups
  • Main Ingredients: Jasmin rice, bone broth
  • Flavor Profile: umami rice
  • Dietary Info: gluten free, dairy free, eggless, no seed oils
  • Difficulty: Easy!
  • Why You’ll Love It: protein rice with umami flavor

Why You'll Love This Recipe

  • More Flavor: Bone broth adds more flavor to plain organic rice. Bone broth is simmered with spices and veggies, giving it a salty and savory umami taste, which makes it the perfect addition to rice! Because bone broth is a liquid, you can easily just replace the water you'd use in traditional rice with bone broth.
  • Healthier Rice: Adding bone broth to rice, makes this classic side dish a little bit better!
  • Protein Rice: Bone broth has protein, which makes this protein rice have 3 times that of standard rice. Traditional white rice has around 4 grams of protein per 1 cup, where this bone broth rice has 15 grams of protein per 1 cup! That's a huge difference!
  • Use with Anything: This side dish is amazing with literally anything. I love making this as a side with Turkey Zucchini Red Pepper Skillet, my husband eats this with Fluffy Scrambled Eggs With Sour Cream for breakfast, and I love this with my Sesame Ginger Salmon Bowl.

When you combine a health conscious foodie (oh, hey that's me!) with a Maui boy (my husband) the result is this easy Bone Broth Rice! We both love rice, me being from the Midwest it was also a huge staple growing up, and my husband ate it daily growing up on Maui!

So, this easy protein rice has become our new go to for flavorful rice with added protein! You can make this rice with any kind of bone broth, from classic chicken or beef to flavored options like ginger turmeric or mushroom!

Tips for Easy Bone Broth Rice

  • I wash my rice before cooking it. Delaney grew up on Maui, so rice is to him what corn is to me: sacred. And, he has taught me that washing your rice makes better rice. But, if you don’t want to wash your rice, you can skip this step.
  • I use a 2 to 1 ratio of bone broth to rice (just like if you were making rice with water). You can use this ratio to make more or less of this recipe easily.
  • I use Kettle & Fire Beef Bone Broth in this recipe because the beef has a more neutral flavor than their chicken (I think). So, I like using this one because then i can serve this with any meal and it works. You can also use flavored bone broths like turmeric ginger, mushroom, or others depending on what kind of dish you're serving it with.
  • If you don't have bone broth, chicken stock or veggie stock also will give you great flavor. It just won't provide the protein that bone broth does.
  • Make sure you watch the rice so it doesn’t boil over at first.
  • Set a timer so you don’t burn it or dry it out.
  • If you want to make this recipe in a rice cooker, you can totally do that!
  • Store extra in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Recipe FAQ's

How do you wash rice?

Washing rice is just like it sounds. You run the rice under warm water until the water runs clear. I put it in a strainer so it is very easy for me to see the water running below it and I swoosh it around a bit to make sure all the rice gets washed.

Why do you wash rice?

Washing rice will wash off the excess starch. This excess starch can sometimes leave a flavor in your mouth. Also, since washing the rice removes excess starches, Delaney always thinks it has a better texture. If you don’t want to wash the rice, you can skip this step.

Can I use regular chicken or beef stock?

Yes, but it this doesn't have the added benefits and protein that bone broth does. This will still give you great flavor though!

High Altitude — Follow the recipe as noted. Rice may take a little longer at high altitude as water boils at a lower temperature, so anything cooked on the stovetop will always be a bit slow. Make sure to look for visual signs your rice is done (and taste it!).
