All of the products I’m sharing today I bought. I was not gifted anything. I bought them all, tested them, used them (among others) and picked my favorites. This is a completely unbiased post so you can trust I’m sharing my top picks for the best Dutch oven that is also nontoxic and under $100!
There are many reviews about the best Dutch oven that talk about the main brands, such as Staub and Le Creuset. And, while I have a Staub, a Le Creuset, and even a Kana, let me tell you these are not typically budget friendly. So, I wanted to try out some of the other options out there incase you are looking for an inexpensive Dutch oven. Not everyone has $200 to $400 to spend on a Dutch oven and that is an average price point for a 4 to 6 Quart in the classics like Staub and Le Creuset . But, I'm here to tell you that you don't need to spend a lot to get a big reward in the kitchen!
Best Value — Overmont 4.5 Qt Dutch Oven

This is the best value, in my opinion. The Overmont Dutch Oven is 4.5 Qt (but they also make other sizes such as 5.5 Qt and 7 Qt). But, I feel the 4.5 Qt is a great average size to have for most kitchens. This Dutch oven is easy to clean and even after multiple uses, the beautiful green color I got is still in perfect condition. Now, I have a 4 Qt Staub that is usually my go to, but honestly this one does the job just as well! If you are looking for a beautiful Dutch oven, with multiple color options, that works just like a Staub, then this is a great option that I highly recommend. If you bake sourdough bread often, this is also the ideal size for bread loaves (as you can see!).
- Size: This is a 4.5 quart, which is a perfect size for baking breads and soups.
- Nontoxic: They are PFOA-free, PTFE-free, and free from PFA chemicals. Made from 100% cast iron, they are coated with three layers of enamel both inside and outside.
- Oven Safe: Up to 500°F.
- Colors: I chose the bottle green, but this also comes in pastel pink, red, white, gray, pumpkin, sapphire blue.
- Price: $44 on Amazon on sale (list price is $59)

Best Overall Pick — Ciwete 6 Qt Dutch Oven

This is my overall pick because it’s a 6 Qt Dutch oven, making this an ideal size for small or even larger families. The price point is the best for the size, in my opinion, because a 6 Qt Dutch oven is pretty large. Before this test, the largest Dutch oven I owned was my Kana Milo 5.5 Qt Dutch Oven and I never really thought I needed a larger size than that. But, we are a smaller family of just two (but I also cook a lot!). This nontoxic Dutch oven is so beautiful in the mint green too! I have made soups, chicken, and also John John's Turkey Dog Food Recipe in this Dutch oven. And, the mint green still looks great with no stains! I will enjoy having a larger Dutch oven for when I want to make large batches of things.
- Size: 6 Quart, which makes it the best value for the size in my opinion.
- Nontoxic: PFOA, PTFA, cadmilim, and lead free.
- Oven Safe: Up to 500°F.
- Colors: I chose the mint green, but this also comes in pastel pink and cream which are all so beautiful. I honestly could not choose! But I already have multiple white/cream Dutch ovens so I wanted to choose something more fun!
- Price: $59.99 on Amazon on sale (list price is $75)

Best USA Made Dutch Oven — Lodge 6 Qt Dutch Oven

I love brands that keep their manufacturing in the USA. And Lodge is one of the great brands that has been making their cookware here. I have other pieces of Lodge cookware and I'm always happy with how they perform. I love this Lodge 6 Qt Dutch Oven as it’s such a great value! It’s a larger size, it has so many amazing colors, and it’s also made in the USA. That’s saying a lot! Plus, Lodge is a trusted name brand as well. So if you wanted to get a Staub or Le Creuset and don’t have the budget, then a Lodge is another big name brand you will love. This works great for roasted chicken, soups, stews, and more.
- Size: 6 Quart, this is a great value size for larger families!
- Nontoxic: Made without PFOA and PTFE.
- Oven Safe: Up to 500°F.
- Colors: So many colors from black, apricot, avocado, blue, brown, light blue, cranberry, sage, evergreen, green, indigo, red, lagoon, lilac, poppy, white, pumpkin, sandalwood, storm blue — you are sure to find one to match your kitchen aesthetic! The one I have here is the oyster white.
- Price: $67 – $79 on Amazon (depending on color)

Best Biggest Dutch Oven — Martha Stewart Gatwick 7 Qt

If you are looking for a large inexpensive Dutch oven, then the Martha Stewart Gatwick 7 Qt Dutch Oven is the one you want. This thing is huge! So, if you have a larger family or like entertaining, this is my top pick. It also comes in so many colors that you can match your kitchen no matter what your style is. Of course Martha would want you to have options! I don't know how often I'll use this Dutch oven because we have a smaller family of just two. But, this is great for cooking large things, such as my Savory Herb Mustard Ham, meal prepping soups, or making chili or stew if you're hosting a party.
- Size: 7 Quart, the biggest one you’d need!
- Nontoxic: PFOA & PTFE free.
- Oven Safe: Up to 500°F.
- Colors: I chose the white in this, but it also comes in black, blue, gray, emerald, lavender, baby blue, navy, pink, red, linen, and yellow. So many colors to choose from so you can definitely match your kitchen!
- Price: $73.99 on Amazon

Best Lightweight — Gotham Steel 5 Qt Dutch Oven

I was shocked when I found this Gotham Steel 5 Qt Dutch Oven. If you are looking for a lightweight Dutch oven this is definitely it. While it's not heavy like a traditional Dutch oven, it is oven safe up to 500°F just like all the others. If you are on a budget or have minimal storage space in your kitchen, you can use this like a pot or like a Dutch oven. This is the most inexpensive Dutch oven I tried. And, it actually worked better than I had expected.
It doesn't have the weight of a traditional Dutch oven which does make it feel less premium, but it does work. Plus, it has many great nontoxic claims. They also make beautiful color options! And, if you hate washing your heavy Dutch oven, or if you have a difficult time pulling out a heavy Dutch oven from your oven, this is a nice alternative that's so much easier to handle. Plus, it will bake up bread well. I did bake bread at 475°F in it and it did get a little color burns on it. But, if you are just cooking on the stovetop, then the beautiful pastel colors stay in tact very well.
- Size: This is a 5 quart, which is a great size for homemade breads, soups, stews, and more.
- Nontoxic: Made without PTFE, PFOA, PFOS, PFAS, lead, or cadmium.
- Oven Safe: Up to 500°F.
- Colors: I chose the baby blue, but this also comes in baby pink, cream, and gray all of which are dreamy!
- Price: $39.99 on Amazon on sale (list price is $59.95)

The Takeaway
Sometimes you don’t need to spend a lot to get a big reward in the kitchen. The best Dutch oven for you doesn’t have to be a Staub or Le Creuset. While these are classics and great options, don’t get caught up in the names. But, instead in what a Dutch oven can do. I’m here to tell you that you can cook, braise, and bake incredibly well in an inexpensive Dutch oven that is also nontoxic! I was incredibly surprised by all the moxy these Dutch ovens have for being under $100! Now, go forth, cook, bake, and braise with confidence and more dollars in your savings account.
