Ingredients

individual ingredients for vegan blueberry milkshake laid out against a white background.
  • Vanilla Ice Cream: I use Cosmic Bliss Vegan Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. This is my favorite organic ice cream that's vegan. You can also use vanilla ice cream made with dairy, either works.
  • Frozen Blueberries: You want to use frozen blueberries for this as it will help create a thicker milkshake. But, you can use fresh as well. You may just want to adjust the liquid to compensate depending on how thick you like your milkshakes.
  • Coconut Milk: Feel free to use any kind of milk you like. Oat or almond milk also work, but I don't like the flavor as much. If you're not vegan, you can use cow's milk too!
  • Whipped Cream: Totally optional, but I love topping this with my Homemade Organic Vegan Whipped Cream!
  • Blueberry Syrup: This part is also optional, but I always have my Homemade Blueberry Syrup in our fridge. So, I add this in for even extra blueberry flavor!

Vegan Blueberry Milkshake FAQ's

Can I use fresh blueberries to make a vegan blueberry milkshake?

You can use fresh fruit, but frozen fruit is better for the texture of this shake if you like thick milkshakes. Frozen fruit will create a creamier texture where fresh fruit will release the water quicker so the shake could be thinner as opposed to thick and creamy. If you are using fresh fruit, I would recommend adding more ice cream or using less milk so it's still thick and creamy.

How to thicken a vegan milkshake?

You can always reduce the liquid to make this vegan milkshake thicker. You can also add more ice cream or even more frozen blueberries.

How to make milkshakes extra thick?

You can reduce the liquid for a thicker milkshake. This recipe is already thick, but you can always add in more liquid (you can't take it out!). So, you can start with less and always add in more.
