Why You'll Love This Recipe
Rich & Creamy Chocolate: This Creamy Vegan Chocolate Smoothie combines the richness of Dutch cocoa powder, with the velvety smoothness of almond butter and coconut milk. I also use banana that makes this thick and creamy.
Healthy: I add in pumpkin seeds for added health benefits in this healthy chocolate smoothie! These small yet mighty seeds are packed with essential nutrients, including protein, healthy fats, fiber, iron, magnesium, zinc, and antioxidants, which support heart health, aid in digestion, boost the immune system, and promote healthy skin and hair. Additionally, their high magnesium content can help regulate blood pressure, while their zinc content supports a healthy prostate and contributes to overall immune function.
Vegan: This healthy chocolate smoothie is dairy free, vegan, and it’s so good! Even if you are not vegan (like me), you'll love this healthy chocolate smoothie because it's loaded with good for you ingredients that taste amazing!

Organic Coconut Smoothie, you can use Genius Juice or Harmless Harvest, they are literally the same exact thing! I buy them both, whatever is in stock, and I’ve made this with both! It's just a matter of what is in stock at my grocery store.

Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
In a high powered blender, add the banana, ice, coconut smoothie, cocoa powder, almond butter, and pumpkin seeds.
Step 2
Blend on low until you don’t hear big ice chunks anymore. Slowly turn the blender up until you are blending at high speed. Blend until smooth and creamy.
Tips
- The ratios really matter here, so don’t add in more ice, and don’t add in more coconut smoothie. Doing so will result in a less chocolate flavor, one that is not as good. This smoothie relies on the ratios!
- If you want to sub peanut butter for the almond butter, you can do that! I use both, but I prefer the almond butter as it makes it more chocolatey, otherwise, the peanut butter flavor tends to take over. You can also use cashew butter if you prefer too!
- You can use coconut milk, but it really is not as good! The coconut smoothie is creamy, it’s like a combination of using milk and yogurt, which really makes a difference in this smoothie because it has so few ingredients.
- When starting the blender, turn it on low first, and allow it to crush up all the ice until you don’t hear anymore big chunks of ice. Then turn it up to high to incorporate everything, blend up the pumpkin seeds, and blend in your powders or supplements if you’re adding. This way it will make a really smooth smoothie!
- If you want to use cow’s milk, you can do that instead. I would use a mix of whole milk and yogurt to make sure you get the creamy texture!

FAQ's
Yes, you can use coconut milk, almond milk, or oat milk if you want. I prefer to use the coconut smoothie as they are incredibly thick and creamy, which is really what makes this smoothie so special, in my opinion. If you are going to use milk in its place, I highly recommend using a canned coconut milk so it's still thick and creamy. Almond milk or oat milk are much more watery and will make this smoothie icy and lackluster as opposed to creamy and delicious.
Yes! I sometimes make this with peanut butter or cashew butter as well and both are delicious! You could also use sunflower butter or pecan butter if you like too.
Yes, if you don't have pumpkin seeds or don't like them feel free to omit them completely or replace them with a seed you do like. But, I really love how the pumpkin seeds provide a subtle salty and earthy flavor to this smoothie. So, if you haven't tried them with it, I urge you to give it a try first! Plus, pumpkin seeds have loads of health benefits!
