Chocolate milkshakes have always been a favorite of mine. They are my dad’s favorite frozen treat, and we’d often sneak off together on warm summer nights to treat ourselves to one without my mom knowing! So, they are a very nostalgic treat for me.
While I love indulging in frozen desserts, I also love doing so with the best organic ingredients. And, if I can sneak in even extra nutrients without sacrificing flavor, the I’m all about it! This healthy chocolate milkshake checks all the boxes!
I created this Bone Broth Chocolate Milkshake that simply uses bone broth in place of milk. Now, this may sound odd at first, even Delaney was skeptical. But I use Kettle and Fire Beef Bone Broth which has a very neutral flavor. If you follow me then you know I cook and bake with bone broth all the time and this one is my favorite to use for this reason. It’s very adaptable and neutral tasting in recipes.
So, I use bone broth in place of milk in this healthy chocolate milkshake recipe. The bone broth adds a lightness to what would be a richer dessert. It almost tastes like a malt, but without the malt powder! It’s light, chocolatey, totally delicious — and you are getting protein and nutrients from bone broth in your dessert!

Ingredients
- Chocolate Ice Cream: You can use your favorite chocolate ice cream. I tested this with both dairy and non dairy chocolate ice cream and it’s so good either way! I used Straus for the traditional ice cream and Cosmic Bliss for the dairy free, which are two of our favorite chocolate ice creams!
- Bone Broth: I use Kettle and Fire Beef Bone Broth. I love using the beef in recipes like this as it has a very neutral flavor and it’s perfect in this recipe. Use code MIMIBAKESCOOKIES for 20% off your order at Kettle and Fire.
- Whipped Cream: If you want, you can top this with Homemade Whipped Cream. Totally optional and this is delicious with or without.

Easy Substitutions
- Use traditional chocolate ice cream or dairy free, I’ve tested this with both.
- You can use vanilla ice cream if you prefer a vanilla shake, I’ve also tested this!
- Add whipped cream on top if you want or leave it off.
- I used Kettle and Fire Beef Bone Broth, but you can use your favorite kind. I would just recommend using a neutral flavored bone broth, like plain beef or chicken, and not a flavored one.
