Why You'll Love This Recipe
- Chinese Five Spice: I love using Chinese five spice to bake and cook with. This simple spice mix, made up of five spices is a delicious way to add loads of flavor into a dish. Growing up, my mom always made a Chinese five spice shrimp stir fry. This versatile spice can be used in sweet or savory and it's amazing in both!
- Asian Inspired Recipe: I love to bake with Chinese five spice and use it in recipes. It's one of my favorite spices for the holidays even though it's a Chinese spice! But, I also love it in savory dishes too, and these Chinese Five Spice Garlic French Fries is an Asian inspired recipe you will absolutely love!
- Big Flavor: Chinese five spice is made up of five different spices. The five different spices can vary depending on which brand you buy. The first four spices are usually always the same, but it's the fifth one that can differ sometimes. My favorite Chinese five spice blend is from Frontier Co-Op. Theirs is made up of cinnamon, cloves, fennel, star anise, and white pepper. The flavor profile is a harmonious balance of sweet, savory, pungent, and slightly spicy notes. It's so good! I use Chinese five spice in my Chinese Five Spice Lettuce Cups With Pork recipe, so if you love that then you will also love these organic French fries!
- Organic French Fries: When you make homemade French fries, you can use organic ingredients at home.
- No Seed Oils: Skip the seed oils and use organic coconut oil instead. Another reason I love making this comfort food at home!
Ingredients

- Potatoes: I use organic Russet potatoes, but you could also use sweet potatoes if you prefer.
- Chinese Five Spice: This is a spice mix that includes five different spices. Depending on what brand you buy the spices can vary slightly. I get the Frontier Co-Op Organic Chinese Five Spice, which includes: cinnamon, fennel seeds, cloves, star anise, and white pepper. It brings a beautiful balance of spice and coziness to these French fries!
- Coconut Oil: I use organic coconut oil for the fat, which is a great high heat oil that's healthier than typical seed oils used at most restaurants.
- Cornstarch: I use organic cornstarch, which helps these fries crisp up in the oven!
- Garlic: I use organic garlic, you can use minced garlic from a jar, or fresh cloves, either works!
- Coconut Aminos: I use organic coconut aminos for the soy lime ketchup. Coconut aminos has a very similar flavor to soy sauce, but no soy! You can use soy sauce if you prefer.
