What are seed oils?

Seed oils are oils such as soybean, canola, sunflower, and corn oil. These oils are highly processed and have high levels of omega-6 fatty acids. They have become a staple in the U.S. modern diet, and you’ll find them in everything from breads, salad dressings, cookies, candies, crackers, soups, and more.

While it may seem easy to avoid seed oils, in today's modern wold where everything is highly processed it can actually be very hard! They are most likely hiding in things you may have not even thought to read the labels on! Seed oils are much less expensive than more quality oils such as extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil. Therefore, brands often use them to save money, hence why they are in so many processed foods.

I do not believe seed oils are needed in bread at all, yet they are found in most store bought breads, even organic options! Some well known organic bread companies use soybean oil or canola oil in their sandwich breads, bagels, and buns! So, today I’m sharing my top picks for organic bread with no seed oils so you can enjoy the convenience of store bought bread, while having your health and well being in mind.

But, you can also make your own homemade bread without seed oils. Try recipes like Sourdough Discard Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread, Homemade Sesame Bagels, Bone Broth Everything Bagels, Organic French Baguettes With Instant Yeast, or Lemon Rosemary Sourdough Bread.

Best Sourdough — Inked Bread Co.

The best organic sourdough without seed oils is Inked Bread Co. San Francisco Sourdough. This organic sliced sourdough bread is organic, had no sugar, and is seed oil free. This is the bread we buy and eat the most in our house! It’s perfect for morning toast, grilled cheese, sandwiches, and more! You can buy Inked Bread on their website, it’s available at some Costco stores, and smaller health food stores as well. Try this with my avocado toast, Meyer Lemon French Toast or Blackberry Honey Butter Toast.

Best Whole Wheat — One Mighty Mill

One Mighty Mill uses stone milled flour and no seed oils in any of their products. I’m a huge fan of this small business out of New York. They have three varieties of organic whole wheat bread that’s made with extra virgin olive oil. They have their traditional Organic Whole Wheat, Everything Whole Wheat, and Power Grains Whole Wheat. You can find One Mighty Mill at many health food stores or you can buy directly on their website.

They also make organic bagels (which are so good!) and they recently came out with an organic whole wheat sourdough, which I have yet to try! I use this bread in my Easy Stuffing Recipe!

Best Bagels — Alvarado Street Bakery

I love bagels so much! And the organic bagels from Alvarado Street Bakery have no seed oils and are made with sprouted wheat. They have Cinnamon Raisin, Everything, Sesame, and Wheat. I eat these bagels almost every day, they’re delicious with Blueberry Butter Spread, Raspberry Cream Cheese Spread, Maple Cream Cheese Spread, or your favorite nut butter and honey! If you can’t find Alvarado Street Bakery at your local health food store, you can order them online at Azure Standard.

One Mighty Mill also makes organic bagels without seed oils. They have Everything and Cinnamon Raisin, which are both delicious!
