Organic Dinner Rolls: This copycat version of organic Hawaiian rolls uses simple organic ingredients. So much better than store bought, you can enjoy these nostalgic rolls without worry!

Ingredients
- Yeast: I use active dry yeast. This is what makes these rolls rise.
- Butter: I use Organic Valley Salted Butter, you can use your favorite. The butter enriches this dough, which is part of what makes it buttery and soft.
- Cane Sugar: You'll need a little organic cane sugar to activate the yeast, and this is also used as sweetener.
- Milk: Use whole milk for the best flavor. Milk also enriches this dough, helping create its soft and pillowy texture.
- Honey: I use organic raw honey for sweetness and flavor. This is also what gives these organic dinner rolls their golden brown color as I brush it on top before baking.
- All Purpose Flour: My favorite is Cairnspring Mills, you can use your favorite. All you need is simple all purpose flour for these organic dinner rolls.
- Salt: Use fine sea salt.

Tools Needed
- Scale: Always use a digital food scale for the best results, especially when making homemade breads.
- Stand Mixer: I use my stand mixer for ease, but you can also do this in a mixing bowl by hand as well.
- Baking Dish: I use my Staub baking dish for these, but you can also bake them in a 10-inch cast iron skillet too.

Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
To make the dough: In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook, add the yeast, ½ teaspoon cane sugar, and warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes or until bubbly.
Step 2
In a small saucepan, add the butter, milk, and honey and melt over medium heat until completely melted. Remove from heat.
Step 3
Add the flour, remaining 57 grams cane sugar, and sea salt to the mixing bowl in that order. Pour the honey butter mixture over the top and knead on low until completely combined. Continue to knead for about 3 to 5 minutes, until the dough is smooth to the touch. Grease a large bowl and transfer the dough into the bowl and cover with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel. Allow to rise for 1 to 3 hours, or until doubled in size.
Step 4
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Remove the dough and form into 12 balls that weigh about 73 grams each. Tuck and fold the dough under so the tops of the dough balls are smooth. Place in a greased baking dish (I used a 10.5-inch by 7.5-inch baking dish). Cover the dish with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and let rise for 30 minutes, or until the dough feels springy.
Step 5
To make the topping: In a small bowl, add the butter and honey. Microwave for 30 seconds to melt completely. Using the pastry brush, brush the tops of the rolls with the topping.
Step 6
Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown. (If you're baking at high altitude, be sure to check the Notes at the bottom of the recipe for high altitude baking instructions).
