This easy recipe is a two for one because you can also enjoy these sweet potato fries too! You can make these just for your pup or for the both of you to share! Just be sure to remove fries for your dog before adding salt and pepper. This recipe is made weekly in our house and John John knows the word “fries”! Ingredients
- Sweet Potato: Sweet potatoes are a healthy carb for your dog! They are rich in fiber, vitamin A, C, and more. They also have beta-carotene which helps your dog’s vision. And they are rich in minerals such as iron and potassium. Plus, dogs love them!
- Coconut Oil: I use organic coconut oil as this is a safe and healthy fat for dogs. You could also use organic extra virgin olive oil too.
- Nutritional Yeast: This is a safe food topper for dogs, providing B vitamins, protein, and more!

- Sweet potatoes are a wonderful carb for dogs that they love! You can use Russet potatoes as well, they just aren't as nutritious.
- You can use extra virgin olive oil in place of coconut oil if you prefer.
- If you want add the nutritional yeast onto the fries before baking, that also works too!
- Add salt and pepper to your portion after baking, ensuring you don't get any on your dog's!

How to Make Dog Friendly Sweet Potato Fries
- Peel the sweet potato using a peeler. It’s important to peel the sweet potato because the skin can is not good for dogs like it is for us. Cut the sweet potato into ¼-inch thick strips.
- Place in a large bowl of cold water and soak for 10 to 15 minutes, until the water looks murky.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Drain the water and spread the fries out onto the baking sheet. Add the melted coconut oil and coat them completely.
- Bake for 20 minutes, then remove the fries and flip them. Bake for another 10 to 20 minutes or so until they are lightly golden brown. Sprinkle with nutritional yeast after they come out of the oven. If you’re sharing with your pup, remove their portion and you can add salt and pepper to your portion. Make sure to cut fries into small pieces if you have a smaller dog so they don’t choke.

While the skin on sweet potatoes is okay for us to eat, it can be difficult for your dog to digest and it can cause upset stomach. So, it’s best to remove the skin for your dog.
If you have a large dog, they can probably enjoy single fries as a treat. But, if you have a smaller dog then be sure to break them into small pieces so they don’t choke. If you are serving these as part of meal, then chop them into small pieces and add into food.
Yes, John John eats sweet potatoes every day. This is a healthy carb for your dog when fed as part of a balanced diet.
Dogs can have Russet potatoes, but they are just not as nutritious as sweet potatoes. For this reason, I don't feed them to John John as they are just more starchy.
Absolutely, both olive oil and coconut oil are a great healthy fat options for your dog.

If they are being used as the carb of their meals, then they can make up that carbs portion (which is also 10% of their meal, or more if you have a super active dog).
