If your dog is having any kind of GI upset or diarrhea, then feeding them a really simple meal such as chicken, white rice, and pumpkin will help. The white rice is low in fiber and easy to digest. The chicken gives them lean protein. And pumpkin is a super food that’s known to help with GI upset. Pumpkin can add bulk to their stool, which can help with diarrhea.

Why You'll Love This Recipe
3 Ingredients: When your dog isn't feeling well, minimal ingredient meals are best. This will ensure that their GI system isn't getting overloaded and has really simple food to digest. All you need to make this recipe is organic chicken breasts, pumpkin puree, and white rice.
Easy: This dog food recipe for upset stomach is so easy! It's quick and simple to make and your dog will love it.
Use as Base: If you make your dog homemade food, this simple chicken dog food recipe can be used as a base food even if they are not sick. Add in some veggies like carrots, bell pepper, or cabbage, sprinkle with a little hemp seeds, chia seeds or nutritional yeast and your dog has a much more balanced meal.

Ingredients
- Chicken: I use organic chicken breasts. Chicken breasts are lean pieces of chicken compared to thighs or drumsticks. Lean meat is best for dogs in general, and it's also easier to digest when they are having GI upset.
- Rice: I use organic Jasmin rice.
- Pumpkin: Our favorite organic pumpkin is Nummy Tum Tum.

Tools Needed
- Small Pot: I use a small pot to cook the rice. You can do this in your rice cooker if you prefer.
- 3-Quart Pot: I use a 3-quart pot to boil the chicken.

FAQ's
Steaming or boiling meat is a healthier way to preserve nutrients. Boiling chicken is a great way to cook chicken for dogs. Gently cooked food is best for dogs for digestion and boiling chicken will cook it at a lower temperature than if you bake it.
This all depends on your dog’s size, current weight, and activity level. Always check with your vet to make sure you are feeding your dog the appropriate amount of food for their size and age.
But a general rule is you should be feeding your dog 2% to 5% of their body weight in fresh food. And small dogs weighing about 20 pounds or less can even get up to 10%! I have an entire article dedicated to How Much Homemade Dog Food Should I Feed My Dog? with a formula you can use for your dog's weight.
Start small if you haven’t been feeding your dog pumpkin. Start with 1 teaspoon per 10 pounds of dog. Aim for about 1 teaspoon for small dogs, 1 tablespoon for medium dogs, and 2 tablespoons for large dogs.
While this is a healthy meal for when your dog isn’t feeling well, it’s not healthy to only feed your dog this. Just like you need fruits, veggies, and variety in your diet, so does your dog! Reserve this meal for when your dog isn’t feeling well or even for special occasions. This would be like a treat meal for them, just like you sometimes eat a meal without fruits and veggies, it’s okay to allow your dog the same pleasure.
