Ingredients
- All Purpose Flour: I use organic all purpose flour, my favorite is Cairnspring Mills.
- Cane Sugar: I use organic cane sugar.
- Baking Powder: Make sure to use baking powder (not baking soda) as there is no acid in this recipe to react with the baking soda.
- Salt: Use a fine sea salt for cookie mixes.
Tools Needed
- Scale: Use a digital food scale for the best results.
- Mixing Bowl: You can use any kind of mixing bowl you like.
- Whisk: I use a whisk to mix up the dry mix.

Gifting Supplies
- 17 oz Glass Jars (You could use any size between 16 oz and 17 oz)
- Holiday Ribbon
- Instruction Card (free download it by clicking the link!)
- Holiday Cookie Cutters (I used 360 Cookware cutters)
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
In a medium bowl, add the flour, cane sugar, baking powder, and fine sea salt and whisk together.
Step 2
Transfer to the glass jar.
Step 3
Download and print out the Instructions Card and cut along the dotted lines. (You get 4 cards per sheet.) Using a hole punch, punch a hole in the corner of each card.
Step 4
Tie a ribbon around the jar and through the hole of the card and a cookie cutter. (If you have a larger ribbon, like I did here in the photos, I put the cookie cutter on top of the jar and just gave the instruction card inside the holiday card I put with it.)
Tips
- This recipe makes 1 jar. If you are making multiple jars you can make more. But, instead of doubling or tripling this recipe in the same bowl, I would mix each one separately to ensure each mix has the appropriate amount of ingredients.
- This is a great recipe for kids to help with! If you want your kids to help, have them help by weighing out ingredients, mixing the cookie mix, filling the jars, or cutting out the cards!
- You can use this mix for other holidays besides Christmas. Simply attach a heart cookie cutter for Valentine’s Day or a bunny cookie cutter for Easter!
- This cookie mix will stay good in the pantry for about 6 months. So, this is a great gift to make ahead of time as it has a long shelf life.
- This is also a great gift to send in the mail because of its long shelf life!
- This would be a great mix to bring to family’s house over the holidays. Go the extra mile and bring a pound of butter and carton of eggs!

Yes, of course! If you're making more than one jar I still recommend doing them one at a time to be sure that the right amount of flour, sugar, and leavening is added into each mix.
This cookie mix will last for about 6 months in the pantry. This makes it a really nice gift not only to give, but also to make ahead of time as there's no worries of this being super perishable. So you can prep these ahead of the holiday and then gift them without the worry that you would have with a cookie box.
Yes! If you want to use a different kind of jar like a mason jar you can do that. You could also use a kraft tin tie bag as well as long as the size fits. This does not have to be airtight, so using a bag like that would be just fine.

- 191 grams all purpose flour
- 113 grams cane sugar
- ¾ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon fine sea salt

Needed to Make Cookies
- 113 grams salted butter (softened)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 large egg
- 1 large egg yolk
- all purpose flour (for rolling)
Instructions
To make the gifts:
- In a medium bowl, add the flour, cane sugar, baking powder, and fine sea salt and whisk together.
- Transfer to the glass jar.
- Download and print out the Instructions Card and cut along the dotted lines. (You get 4 cards per sheet.) Using a hole punch, punch a hole in the corner of each card.
- Tie a ribbon around the jar and through the hole of the card and a cookie cutter. (If you have a larger ribbon, like I did here in the photos, I put the cookie cutter on top of the jar and just gave the instruction card inside the holiday card I put with it.)
To make cookies:
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, or using a hand mixer, add the butter and vanilla extract. Mix on low until the butter and vanilla are incorporated and there are no butter chunks.
- Add in the egg and egg yolk and mix on low to combine, scraping down the sides of bowl as needed.
- Slowly add in the sugar cookie mix while mixing on low. Continue to mix, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed, until you have a smooth dough.
- Form the dough into a disk and wrap the dough in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line three baking sheets with parchment paper.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/8-inch thick. Cut out cookies with cookie cutters. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly golden brown around the edges. Allow to cool completely on the baking sheets.
- Top with frosting if desired or leave plain!
