Equipment

  • Digital Food Scale
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk

Ingredients

Cookie Mix

  • 191 grams all purpose flour
  • 113 grams cane sugar
  • ¾ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt

For Gifting

Needed to Make Cookies

  • 113 grams salted butter (softened)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • all purpose flour (for rolling)

Instructions

To make the gifts:

  • In a medium bowl, add the flour, cane sugar, baking powder, and fine sea salt and whisk together.
  • Transfer to the glass jar.
  • Download and print out the Instructions Card and cut along the dotted lines. (You get 4 cards per sheet.) Using a hole punch, punch a hole in the corner of each card.
  • Tie a ribbon around the jar and through the hole of the card and a cookie cutter. (If you have a larger ribbon, like I did here in the photos, I put the cookie cutter on top of the jar and just gave the instruction card inside the holiday card I put with it.)

To make cookies:

  • In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, or using a hand mixer, add the butter and vanilla extract. Mix on low until the butter and vanilla are incorporated and there are no butter chunks.
  • Add in the egg and egg yolk and mix on low to combine, scraping down the sides of bowl as needed.
  • Slowly add in the sugar cookie mix while mixing on low. Continue to mix, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed, until you have a smooth dough.
  • Form the dough into a disk and wrap the dough in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line three baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/8-inch thick. Cut out cookies with cookie cutters. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly golden brown around the edges. Allow to cool completely on the baking sheets.
  • Top with frosting if desired or leave plain!

Tips
  • Always weigh ingredients for the best results. It's quicker, easier and you know your gift giving recipients will have perfectly measured dry ingredients when they go to make holiday cookies.
  • This recipe makes 1 jar. If you are making multiple jars you can make more. But, instead of doubling or tripling this recipe in the same bowl, I would mix each one separately to ensure each mix has the appropriate amount of ingredients.
  • This is a great recipe for kids to help with! If you want your kids to help, have them help by weighing out ingredients, mixing the cookie mix, filling the jars, or cutting out the cards!
  • You can use this mix for other holidays besides Christmas. Simply attach a heart cookie cutter for Valentine’s Day or a bunny cookie cutter for Easter!
  • This cookie mix will stay good in the pantry for about 6 months. So, this is a great gift to make ahead of time as it has a long shelf life.
  • This is also a great gift to send in the mail because of its long shelf life!
  • This would be a great mix to bring to family’s house over the holidays. Go the extra mile and bring a pound of butter and carton of eggs too!
