Ingredients

- Butter: I use organic salted butter. Depending on what kind of flavor you want for this garlic herb butter, the butter itself can make a big difference. If you want a smooth light tasting butter, choose Sierra Nevada European Salted Butter or Organic Valley Salted Butter. If you want a tang and lots of bold flavor, then choose Nancy's Organic Cultured Sea Salt Butter. I have tested many butters with this, and the butter really can change your flavor! If using unsalted butter, make sure to add 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
- Spices: I use organic fresh chives and dried thyme for a classic flavor that goes with everything. But, this is a blank canvas and you can also use your favorite spices such as oregano, rosemary, or even an Italian seasoning if you prefer.
- Garlic: You can use organic garlic cloves or minced garlic from a jar, either works.

Tips for Homemade Garlic Herb Butter
- Use a butter that you like. Butters can differ in flavor, depending on butter fat and if they are cultured, European, or sweet cream. Choose sweet cream for a mild flavor that lets the herbs shine through. Choose a cultured butter for big bold tang that compliments the herbs. So, just know this can affect the flavor of your finished gourmet compound butter.
- If you're using unsalted butter, add 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
- You can switch up the herbs if you like, go ahead and get creative and use your favorites!
- Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days.
- You can freeze this for up to 3 months too.
Butter Matters
As I mentioned, the kind of butter you choose can make a big difference in how the final garlic herb butter tastes. Here's a quick cheat sheet.
- Sweet Cream: Use a sweet cream butter if you want the butter flavor to be mild, but the herbs to shine through. This would be Organic Valley Salted Butter. This works great for this recipe and is perfect for applications such as steak when you want a mild butter flavor with bold herb flavor.
- European: Choose a European style butter for the best overall butter and herb flavor together. I prefer Sierra Nevada European Salted Butter for this one. Their butter is super flavorful, not overwhelming, but really gives you a gourmet true butter flavor that tastes restaurant style and is perfect for any application such as steak, pizza, pasta, toast, bread, and more.
- Cultured: Go with a cultured butter if you want big bold flavor and tang. I prefer Nancy's Organic Cultured Sea Salt Butter if you go this route. Their butter is super bold, flavorful, and tangy. But, it can overwhelm certain things. I would use this butter if you are using this for a butter board, on pizza, bread, or toast. These applications will allow this butter to shine in the best way and be the star!
