What is bone broth?

Bone broth is a liquid broth made from simmering animal bones and connective tissue. It’s usually simmered for around 20 hours along with vegetables, herbs, and spices to give it flavor.

Bone broth may look similar to chicken or vegetable stock, but it’s a much healthier option! Bone broth can be used in any recipe that calls for chicken stock or vegetable stock. And bone broth contains much more nutritional benefits compared to chicken stock or vegetable stock!

Benefits of Bone Broth

Bone broth contains collagen, which is something your body needs! Collagen is a protein that is responsible for healthy joints and skin elasticity. Collagen is already in your bodies, but as you age, collagen starts to break down and it also gets harder for your body to produce. So, if you eat collagen rich foods, it can help replenish collagen in your body and you will reap those benefits! Some benefits of bone broth include:

  • Promotes Gut Health
  • Supports Joint Mobility
  • Supports Healthy Skin, Hair & Nails
  • Promotes Better Sleep
  • Supports Your Immune System
  • Promotes Weight Loss

How to Use Bone Broth in Recipes

Bone broth can be used in recipes just like you’d use chicken stock or vegetable stock. You can use it in place of chicken or vegetable stock in any recipe. You can also add bone broth into drinks like in hot chocolate and coffee. And you can also drink it on its own! Here are some of my favorite ways to use bone broth in recipes.

Add Bone Broth to Soups & Stews

Recipes like soup are an amazing way to incorporate bone broth into your everyday diet. You can use bone broth as a base for soup, or you can add it into creamy soups as well. Check out my Chicken & Potato Soup which uses Kettle & Fire Chicken Bone Broth as the base.

In my Broccoli Cheddar Soup, I use Kettle & Fire Chicken Bone Broth in addition to milk and cream for a creamy soup that is still loaded with all the goodness of bone broth. And I also use Kettle & Fire Beef Bone Broth for my Slow Cooker Beef Brisket Stew.

I also have easy one serving soup recipes like my 5 Ingredient Bone Broth Vegetable Soup, Easy Wonton Soup, or my 3 Ingredient Sausage & Kale Soup that uses just 1 carton of Kettle & Fire Chicken Bone Broth with some easy add ins for a dinner that’s ready in 15 minutes!

Add Bone Broth to Drinks

Add bone broth to coffee, hot chocolate, or smoothies for an added bonus. You can also drink bone broth on its own. I love heating it up and sipping it hot out of a mug on a cold day. Try my Bone Broth Hot Cocoa or Bone Broth Bloody Mary Mix.
