  • No Seed Oils: When you make homemade hummus you can use a high quality extra virgin olive oil and leave out the seed oils that are in most store bought hummus.

Ingredients

  • Chickpeas: The base of hummus is chickpeas, which you can just buy in a can. You'll want to strain off the liquid before adding the chickpeas. But, don't throw away the liquid as this brine is natural aquafaba which you can use in place of eggs for cookies and other baked goods!
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Use a high quality organic extra virgin olive oil for the best flavor.
  • Garlic: I use fresh garlic here, but you can also use minced garlic. Use the ratio of 1 teaspoon pre clove.
  • Lime: Organic lime brings the zesty flavor to this homemade hummus!
  • Garlic Powder: I use garlic powder in addition to fresh garlic for the best flavor here.

Tips for Garlic Lime Hummus

  • Make sure to drain chickpeas. You can save that chickpea brine and use it in baked goods as an egg replacer! Store it in an airtight container in the fridge. Or you can also use it to make Homemade Candied Pecans Without Eggs.
  • You can use fresh garlic or minced garlic from a jar, either works.
  • For ultra smooth hummus, don't be afraid to food processor longer. You can also add a little more EVOO to get your desired consistency.

  1. Process for 2 to 3 minutes, stopping to scrape down the sides as needed. Letting the processor run longer is what helps this hummus turn ultra smooth and creamy, rather than stopping too early and leaving it grainy. Once the hummus is smooth to your liking, add salt and pepper to taste and process again until combined.
