This homemade Tzatziki Sauce uses Greek yogurt and a few simple ingredients. I add cucumber, extra virgin olive oil, fresh garlic, lemon juice, dill, and you can also add mint if you want. Delaney prefers this without mint, and I like it. Traditionally mint is used in a lot of Greek dishes, but it’s just as delicious with or without!
Why You'll Love This Recipe
Healthy: Organic Tzatziki Sauce is a healthy condiment that you can use on so many things! This homemade Tzatziki Sauce is a Greek yogurt base which is loaded with protein and probiotics.
Homemade: Everything is better when it's homemade, especially sauces and things that can have unnecessary ingredients in them to help extend shelf life and other things. So, I always opt for homemade whenever possible!
Use on Everything: Use it on burgers in place of more sugary condiments like ketchup or BBQ sauce. You can use this on chicken and beef. And you can even use it as a dip for veggies and chips.

Ingredients & Health Benefits
- Cucumber: You'll need organic cucumbers which are the base of this homemade Tzatziki sauce. Cucumbers are low in calories and high in fiber.
- Greek Yogurt: I use organic plain Greek yogurt as this is a savory dip, so don't use a vanilla or flavored yogurt. Greek yogurt is loaded with probiotics and protein.
- EVOO: I use organic extra virgin olive oil, which is a healthy fat that's anti inflammatory.
- Lemon: I use organic fresh lemon which provides a zesty flavor. Lemons are also high in vitamin C and antioxidants.
- Garlic: You can use fresh garlic cloves or organic minced garlic from a jar, either works. Garlic is anti inflammatory, antimicrobial, and can also boost your immune system.
- Dill: I use organic dried dill weed for the best flavor. Dill has antioxidants and vitamin C.
- Mint: You can top this with fresh mint, which is optional. Mint can reduce inflammation and aid in digestion.
- Salt: Needed for flavor, use a fine sea salt.

Absolutely! You can make this Homemade Healthy Tzatziki Sauce ahead of time if you want. It’s a great dip or sauce for entertaining! If you’re making it ahead of time, just be sure to store it in an airtight container in the fridge.
For this recipe, I grate the cucumber using the large side of a box grater. Then I add the cucumber into a fine mesh strainer and squish it down with my hands (over the sink of course!). If you don’t have a fine mesh strainer, you can add the cucumber to a paper towel and ring it out over the sink too!
Yes, if you prefer to use fresh dill you can! But you’ll need more fresh dill than the recipe calls for. Dried spices usually have a bit more flavor than fresh, so just be sure to add more and taste test it!
Yes, if you don’t want to add the mint feel free to leave it out. Taste it before, and then decide if you want to add it in.
Tzatziki sauce is a light and zesty sauce that makes a great dip for veggies. It also goes really well with chicken, lamb, or beef. If you are making kabobs or grilled meat, tzatziki sauce is a great healthy alternative to dip instead of BBQ.
