Ingredients

- Butter: I use organic salted butter for the frosting, but you can use unsalted if you prefer. Check out Best Salted Butter for Baking for my top picks.
- Pink Dye: I use organic beet powder, but pitaya or even strawberry or raspberry powder also works too.
- Chocolate Covered Pretzels: I make my own chocolate covered pretzels (recipe included here!), but you can also use store bought if you prefer.
- Chocolate Hearts: I use Lake Champlain Organic Chocolate Hearts, these are my favorite organic chocolate hearts!
- Heart Gummies: YumEarth Organic Heart Gummies are what I used, these cute little gummies are Valentine's Day worthy!
- Animal Crackers: I use Trader Joe's Organic Animal Crackers, you can also use your favorite.
- Licorice: I have bought Wallaby Australian licorice that was organic before, but I haven't been able to find it recently. The SunRidge Farms kind is great and it's free of artificial colors. And, YumEarth makes an organic licorice, it's just not Australian.

How to Make a Valentine's Day Charcuterie Board

- To make the chocolate pretzels: In a heatproof mixing bowl, add the milk chocolate.

- Melt, either using a double boiler, or doing 30 second intervals in the microwave.

- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Half dip the pretzels into the milk chocolate and place on the baking sheet.

- Place the baking sheet in the freezer to set the chocolate. Once it’s set you can sprinkle with sea salt if you want sweet and salty pretzels (this part is totally optional).

- To make the frosting: In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, add the butter, powdered sugar, beet powder, vanilla extract and water.

- Mix on low until combined, then speed the mixer up to high. Whip for 2 to 3 minutes or until light and fluffy. Be sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl part way through mixing to ensure everything is evenly mixed. Transfer the frosting to a small bowl.

- To assemble the charcuterie board: Add the bowl of pink frosting. Add the heart gummies into a bowl and add onto the board.

- Add on the pretzels.

- Next, add in the licorice and animal crackers.

- And, finish with the chocolate hearts. This can be totally freeform, feel free to assemble it any way you like.

Recipe FAQ's
Yes, absolutely! If you plan to make this ahead of time you can store the frosting in an airtight container until right before you plan to serve it.
You can add anything else that you'd like, such as cookies, brownies, biscotti, or other candy. Just try to keep the theme Valentine's Day with pink, red, or purple as primary colors as this is what makes it feel like Valentine's Day.
