Why You'll Love This Recipe

Healthy: This Salsa Verde Burger Bowl is a healthy mix of Mexican and American burgers. I love both burger and tacos, so I combined them into this healthy recipe that you can enjoy all the time!

Chicken + Pork: I use a mix of ground chicken and pork. This makes a lean burger that is incredibly flavorul.

Mexican Inspired: This Mexican inspired recipe uses my Homemade Taco Seasoning along with onions, avocado, cilantro, and green salsa. You can serve this over lettuce, rice, or even on a bun if you like!

Ingredients & Health Benefits

Ground Pork: I'm using Organic Prairie Ground Pork, which is my favorite organic pork!

Ground Chicken: Ground chicken is mixed in with ground pork for a lighter tasting burger, I use Organic Prairie Ground Chicken.

Taco Seasoning: If you like a mild taco seasoning, then my Organic Taco Seasoning recipe will be your favorite, it's what I used here.

Romaine Lettuce: I use organic Romaine lettuce, but you can use your favorite kind of lettuce or mixed greens. Romain lettuce has vitamin K and C.

Ghee: Organic ghee is a healthy fat, I love Organic Valley Ghee.

Yellow Onion: Organic yellow onion has antioxidants, antibacterial properties and can help regulate blood sugar.

Avocado: Organic avocado is full of healthy fat and flavor and it's a great substitute for cheese on a burger!

Green Salsa: I'm using organic green salsa here, but you can use any kind you like.

Cilantro: Organic cilantro has antioxidants and can help lower inflammation in your body. Not to mention, it's a key ingredient for Mexican inspired dishes.

Lime: A little squeeze of fresh lime gives this burger some zest and gives you some vitamin C!

Salt and Pepper: I use fine sea salt and organic black pepper.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

In a large bowl add the ground pork, ground chicken, and taco seasoning. Mix the meat together completely to incorporate the spice mix and so the meat is evenly mixed. Place the bowl in the fridge, until ready to form burgers.

Step 2

Thinly slice the onion and add to a large skillet with the ghee. Put over medium/high heat and cook until onions are slightly browned and translucent, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat, and lightly salt the onions to our liking. Set aside.

Step 3

Chop lettuce into thin slices and place in bowls. Slice avocado and cut limes into wedges. Set aside.

Step 4

Remove the meat from the fridge and form the burgers four 4-ounce patties that are about 5-inches in diameter.

Step 5

Heat grill to high, place the burgers on the grill and cook, flipping half way though, until internal temperature of 165°F. Depending on what kind of grill you have, it may take longer, propane, gas, open grill – there is a lot of variables here so make sure you don’t leave burgers unattended. (Or alternatively, you can cook burgers in a large skillet over medium/high heat, add the burgers. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side, until internal temperature is 165°F).

Step 6

Place the burgers on top of the lettuce, add grilled onions, avocado, and cilantro on top. Serve with salsa verde and a wedge of lime.
