Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook, add the yeast ½ cup warm water, and 1 teaspoon cane sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes or until bubbly.
Step 2
Add the bread flour, avocado oil, cane sugar, sea salt, and 1 cup warm water. Knead on speed 2 to 4 for 5 minutes, the dough will be smooth. Cover with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Step 3
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Form into 8 pieces, weighing about 3.6 ounces each. Form each piece into a round ball by tucking the dough under itself so the top is smooth. Place on the prepared baking sheet. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 30 minutes or until the dough feels springy.
Step 4
Preheat the oven to 425°F. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top (optional). Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned on the tops. (If you're baking at high altitude, be sure to check the Notes at the bottom of the recipe for high altitude baking instructions).
Variations
- Plain: Leave off the sesame seeds.
- Poppy Seed: Replace the sesame seeds with poppy seeds.
