Olive Oil Dough: I created this recipe with my friends at Carapelli using their 100% Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil that allows you to explore the origin of your olive oil. I love Carapelli as they truly care about sustainability, it’s a big reason why I always purchase their olive oil beyond taste and the fact that I’m obsessed with their bottles!

Ingredients & Health Benefits

  • All Purpose Flour: I use organic all purpose flour for ease in this homemade pizza. No fancy flour needed!
  • EVOO: I use 100% Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil that allows you to explore the origin of your olive oil. This high quality olive oil gives this organic pizza amazing flavor. Plus, EVOO is a healthy fat that's anti inflammatory and is loaded with antioxidants.
  • Salt: Use fine sea salt.
  • Cornmeal: I use a little organic cornmeal for the bottom of the pizza dough to ensure it doesn't stick. This also provides a really nice texture that I love.
  • Marinara Sauce: You can use your favorite organic marinara sauce. I love using a tomato basil sauce, personally.
  • Mozzarella: This is classic pizza cheese and it also provides protein and calcium to this dish. I prefer to buy organic mozzarella in a block and grate it myself. Check out my post 5 Reasons to Grate Your Own Cheese for more info on why.
  • Pepperoni: I use Organic Valley Pepperoni which is my favorite. This
  • Basil: I top this homemade pizza with fresh organic basil for loads of flavor. Basil is also anti inflammatory, can help with digestion, and is rich in antioxidants.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

To make the dough: In a medium bowl, add the flour, sea salt, olive oil, and water. Mix together with your hands until a shaggy dough forms. Allow the dough to rest for 5 to 10 minutes, this helps the gluten relax, making it easier to work with.

Step 2

Preheat the oven to 450°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and sprinkle with cornmeal.

Step 3

Lightly flour a work surface. Turn the dough onto the work surface and lightly flour. Roll out with a rolling pin long and thin, about 15-inches long.

Drizzle the dough with olive oil and use the back of a spoon to spread it evenly. Using a fork, poke the dough with holes everywhere.

Step 4

Bake the dough alone for 13 to 15 minutes, until it looks dry. Remove from the oven.

Step 5

Add the marinara sauce and spread evenly. Add the mozzarella and pepperonis.

Step 6

Return to the oven and bake for another 13 to 15 minutes, until the cheese is lightly browned. Top the pizza with fresh basil and cut into strips.
