Why You'll Love This Recipe
- Natural Sweetness: These Cinnamon Sugar Banana Baked Donuts combine the natural sweetness of ripe bananas with the warm, comforting spices of cinnamon and nutmeg, creating a flavorful treat that feels indulgent and comforting.
- Healthier Donuts: Baked instead of fried, these baked donuts are a healthier option that are free of seed oils while still offering a soft and moist texture, making them a guilt-free indulgence. Just like Maple Pumpkin Spice Baked Donuts or Carrot Cake Donuts with Apple Cider Glaze.
- Quick and Easy: Made in just one bowl, these homemade baked donuts come together quickly and are ready in under an hour! Perfect for weekend breakfast.
Ingredients

- Banana: You'll need a very ripe banana. Ripe and overly ripe bananas are best for baking because as they ripen, the starches turn into sugars. This softens the banana, which makes it easier to combine into baked goods. And, it also has a sweeter flavor with natural sugars.
- Cane Sugar: I use organic cane sugar because it's less processed than granulated white sugar. This also makes these organic donuts naturally sweet, versus being overly sweet especially with the cinnamon sugar coating.
- Dark Brown Sugar: I use my homemade dark brown sugar, but store bought also works.
- Baking Powder: Use baking powder, not soda for the right texture. Be sure to check out my post the Difference Between Baking Soda and Baking Powder for more info on leavening agents.
- Cinnamon: I use organic Korintje cinnamon, which is my favorite variety and has a distinct flavor. Check out my post the Best Cinnamon to Bake With for more info on the different varieties.
- Nutmeg: This is a classic spice used in man donut recipes and it provides a nostalgic donut flavor!
- Greek Yogurt: I use organic plain Greek yogurt, but you can also use sour cream too.

Baker's Tips
- Always use a digital food scale for the best results.
- I use a mixing bowl and spatula to mix up the batter as this recipe is quick and easy. But, you can also use a hand mixer or stand mixer too.
- Make sure to use overly ripe banana for the best flavor.
- If you don't have a piping bag, you can spoon the batter into the donut pans.
- You want to ensure donuts are cooled enough before coating them. They can be a little warm, but not hot or they will break very easily.
- Store extra baked donuts under a cake dome or in an airtight container.
- High Altitude — Bake at 400°F for 8 to 12 minutes or until, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

- I love making these on a lazy weekend morning with an Iced Blueberry Latte as it makes feel like I'm going out for brunch, but I get to stay in!
- Enjoy with a side of yogurt and Crispy Chocolate Olive Oil Granola.
- Have as a side to Everything Bagel Turkey Breakfast Sausages or Fluffy Scrambled Eggs with Sour Cream.
Recipe FAQ's
Yes, absolutely! You can use your stand mixer or a hand mixer for this. But, it's really just so easy that even me (the laziest baker) is okay with just using a bowl!
If you don't have dark brown sugar, you can easily make your own Homemade Dark Brown Sugar with my easy recipe! But, you can also use light brown sugar as well, but they won't be as rich in flavor. The only difference between light brown sugar and dark brown sugar is the amount of molasses. So, while you can use these interchangeably in recipes and the recipe will work, the flavor will be different because you aren't getting as much molasses flavor when you use light brown sugar.
Yes, if you want to make these ahead of time you can do that! You can either make just the batter the night before, place in an airtight container in the fridge and then just pipe into the donut pans and bake the following morning for fresh donuts! Or you can make the whole recipe and bake them off the day before. Just be sure to store them in an airtight container, like a cake dome, if you are baking the day before so they don't dry out.
