Valentine's Day has always been one of my favorite holidays, probably because it is purely made up. I know that's why some people hate it, as there is no “meaning” behind it and it was made up for consumerism to take place and sell things. But, to make up a day to show love to people who matter to you is a really amazing idea to me. So, I've always loved it.
When I was young, I would wake up to a present on my plate at the breakfast table. Sometimes it was a tangible item like a kite or a ski jacket, and sometimes it was a simple dark chocolate vanilla buttercream candy. My mom always made Valentine's Day special, even if it was just one small thing. And I think that's all that you should strive for this holiday. So, I'm sharing these strawberry donuts as Valentine's Day treats at breakfast are just nostalgic for me! These organic donuts are baked, making them a healthier option. And, I use fresh strawberries for naturally pink donuts without artificial colors!

Organic Donuts: These strawberry donuts use organic ingredients so they are so much better than fried versions you'd get a donut shop.

Ingredients
- All Purpose Flour: My favorite is Cairnspring Mills.
- Cane Sugar: I use organic cane sugar, which is less processed than traditional granulated white sugar. This provides a more natural sweetness, without being overly sweet.
- Baking Powder: Use baking powder, not soda. Be sure to check out my post the Difference Between Baking Soda and Baking Powder for more info on leavening agents.
- Cinnamon: I use organic Korintje cinnamon, which is my favorite variety of cinnamon. Be sure to check out my post the Best Cinnamon to Bake With for more info on the different varieties.
- Nutmeg: This adds more depth of flavor to these organic donuts.
- Salt: Use fine sea salt.
- Eggs: Use large eggs, these will help these donuts rise as they bake.
- Heavy Whipping Cream: I use Organic Valley, you can use your favorite.
- Cream Cheese: I use organic cream cheese in the donut batter for a little tang.
- Maple Syrup: I use organic maple syrup for some sweetener.
- Butter: I use Organic Valley Salted Butter, you can use your favorite.
- Vanilla Extract: Use a high quality vanilla extract, not imitation.
- Cooking Spray: I find its best to use organic cooking spray for these strawberry donuts. This ensures they come out of the donut pans with ease. You can use a canola oil spray or even an EVOO, coconut, or avocado oil spray as well.
- Strawberries: I use fresh strawberries.
- Powdered Sugar: I use organic powdered sugar for the glaze, be sure its sifted so it's smooth.
- Milk: use organic whole milk for the best flavor.
- Sprinkles: I use ColorKitchen Nonpareils and India Tree Nature's Colors Heart Sprinkles, which are both made with plant based dyes.

Tools Needed
- Scale: Always use a digital food scale for the best results.
- Stand Mixer: I use a stand mixer, but if you want to use a hand mixer you can do that as well.
- Donut Pan: You'll need a donut pan to make these strawberry donuts.
- Piping Bag: I use a piping bag to pipe the donut batter into the pans. If you don't have this, you can just spoon it in as well.
- Mixing Bowl: You'll need a mixing bowl to mix up the glaze for these organic donuts.
- Whisk: I just use a whisk to mix up the glaze.

FAQ's
Yes, if you want to make them a day ahead you totally can! Just be sure to store them properly so they don't dry out. As these are baked cake donuts, they need to be store in an airtight container or a cake dome is a great option!
I always use my stand mixer as it's hands free and I prefer it. But, you do not need a stand mixer for this recipe, a hand mixer will work just fine! And, even if you don't have a hand mixer, you can do all of this by hand, it will just be a bit more work.
Yes, if you want to use raspberries or blackberries they would also be delicious in this recipe!
If you want a thicker glaze, omit the milk completely, or use just a small amount. The strawberries have natural juices that come out and will create a liquid for the glaze. So, if you want a thicker glaze, then use less milk or no milk at all.
