1. Organ Meats

Organic organ meats, such as beef liver, are a superfood for your dog! It’s one of the best dog food toppers for daily feeding. Organ meats are high in vitamins A, B, D, and E, as well as minerals like iron, copper, selenium, and zinc. They also provide protein, support the immune system, hormones and more! We give John John a small amount of organic beef liver with every meal. Organ meat should not make up more than 10% of your dog’s daily diet. No matter if you fresh feed or feed dog dog food, this topper is a great addition to daily meals. Learn How to Make Beef Liver for Dogs and start giving your dog the benefits of this super food!

2. Bone Powder

If you fresh feed your dog, then this Better Bones Bone Powder is an essential addition to daily feeding. Dogs need to have the right 2:1 ratio of calcium to phosphorus and unless you’re feeding your dog bones, they aren’t getting this. If they don’t get the right ratio of these two things, their bodies can pull calcium from their bones. This can cause arthritis, stiff joints, and more. Because we feed John John only fresh food, we include this bone powder topped on each meal. This is an essential part of his diet.

3. Probiotics

Just like humans, dogs can benefit from the addition of probiotics in their daily diet. We use BioLifePet Liquid Probiotics for John John. This is a liquid probiotic that goes right on top of food daily. It has no flavor so your dog shouldn’t even notice it. And trust me, John John would tell me if it’s bad. He can be picky! Probiotics can help with daily bowel movements. Probiotics are wonderful food toppers for dogs as they will improve gut health and overall health.

4. Nutritional Yeast

Nutritional yeast is a great food topper for dogs. It has a cheesy like flavor, so it’s incredibly tasty! If your dog likes cheese, they’ll go nuts for this. But it also is packed with B vitamins, protein, zinc, potassium and more. It can improve digestion, aid the liver and improve skin health. You can give your dog this daily. For small dogs start with 1/4 teaspoon, medium dogs 1/2 teaspoon, and large dogs 3/4 teaspoon daily. You can also start small doing it every couple days to ensure they adjust. Try our favorite organic nutritional yeast (great for both humans and dogs)!

5. Pumpkin

Organic pumpkin puree is a superfood for your dog! Our favorite is Nummy Tum Tum. Pumpkin provides fiber, antioxidants, prebiotics and more. Pumpkin can also help if your dog has GI troubles! We give John John pumpkin every day in his Pumpkin Granola for Dogs. He likes it better in this form, versus mixed into food. But you can add a teaspoon of pumpkin on top or mixed into your dog’s food if they like it.

6. Blueberries

Organic blueberries are high in antioxidants and cancer fighting properties. Blueberries are a superfood for your dog and should be part of their daily diet. John John eats blueberries every day! You can use fresh or even frozen blueberries as dog food toppers. Add these on top of meals for added health benefits!

7. Gussy Gut

Gussy Gut is an organic fermented food supplement in the form of a powder. It has 19 Superfoods and over 180 nutrients (with vitamins, minerals, probiotics, prebiotics, postbiotics, polyphenols, fatty acids, terpenes, and phytochemicals. We just discovered this supplement and have started including it in John John’s diet and he loves it! Honestly it smells good enough for me to eat, ha! We do this every other day on top of meals. Fermented foods help dogs in the same way they help humans. They promote good bacteria in the gut, improve digestion, and overall immune system.

8. Multivitamin

If your dog doesn’t get a balanced diet or is a very picky eater, then a multivitamin may be a great idea. Dog is Human makes a great non GMO option that you can add on top of food. If you’re fresh feeding and your dog doesn’t get variety, then these multivitamins can also be great food toppers for dogs.

9. Greek Yogurt

Organic plain Greek yogurt is loaded with probiotics for your pup! Not only that, but it’s a good source of fat and protein. And it tastes amazing! So if you have a picky eater or a dog who needs to work on gut health or gain weight, this is an amazing food topper! John John eats organic plain Greek yogurt daily on top of his lunch. Make sure you’re feeding your dog plain organic Greek yogurt. Stay away from regular yogurts as most have added sugar, flavors, and other additives dogs should not have.

10. Granola

If your dog is a picky eater or needs to gain weight, then our Pumpkin Granola for Dogs is a great food topper. Granola has fat, which can help dogs who need to gain weight because of stress or malnutrition. This dog friendly granola also tastes amazing so if you have a picky eater, it’s like putting treats on top of their food. But, it has healthy ingredients like pumpkin, coconut oil, honey, and oats.

11. Apples

I love apples as dog foot toppers! Apples are a safe fruit for dogs to eat. And raw apples can help clean your dog’s teeth naturally! They can also freshen breath. Apples help stimulate saliva flow, which can neutralize the acids produced by dental plaque. John John eats apples daily and he loves them, it’s his favorite fruit!

12. Berries

If you can’t get blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, or raspberries are the next best option for a fruit food topper. These berries all have antioxidants and are safe for dogs. You can do fresh or frozen, just like with blueberries.
