This twist on classic butterscotch sauce uses brown butter for a nutty and rich flavor. This recipe for homemade Brown Butter Butterscotch Sauce can fill four 6-ounce jars for gifting!
To brown the butter: In a medium pot, add the butter. Cook over low/medium heat until the butter melts. Continue to cook until the butter tuns a golden color with small brown specs. Remove from heat immediately, as it can burn very easily at this stage.
Add the light brown sugar into the pot with the brown butter. Put over low/medium heat and allow the sugar to dissolve. Once the sugar has dissolved completely, you’ll have a liquid that is kind of like a paste.
Slowly add in the cream as you stir to combine completely. Allow to cook and simmer for an additional 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from heat.
Add in the vanilla extract and sea salt and stir to combine completely.
Add into jars for gifting or store in a glass jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
