Cook up a nutritious meal for your dog with this slow cooker beef dog food recipe. Made with organic ingredients, it's a healthier alternative to store-bought kibble!
Peel the sweet potato. Make sure to peel the potato completely as the skin can be toxic for dogs. Chop the potato into 1 to 2-inch cubes. Set aside.
Slice the carrots. Chop the bell pepper into 1 to 2 inch pieces. Set aside.
Add the ground beef to a slow cooker. Add the potatoes and veggies on top. Pour the water over the top.
Slow cooker on low for 2 hours. Stir half way through to mix up meat and veggies and ensure even cooking.
Serve to your dog as is. But, if you have a smaller dog (like John John) you may need to chop up a bit more after cooked.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. You could also portion this out and freeze as well.

Tips & Important Notes
Feel free to swap out other dog friendly veggies if your dog likes them more. Other great options include zucchini, Brussels sprouts, butternut squash, beets, broccoli, or green beans.
You can use another kind of protein. Ground turkey, ground chicken, ground pork, or ground lamb would all work for this. Feel free to choose what is best for your dog.
If you don't have a slow cooker or crockpot, feel free to use a Dutch oven or large pot on your stovetop burner. You can simmer it just the same way.
You want to cut potatoes and veggies small so they cook, but not too small that they become mush.
If you don't want to use sweet potato, you can cook the meat and veggies in the slow cooker and serve this with How to Cook Rice For Dogs for the carb.
If you have a smaller dog (like John John) I like to cut up the potatoes and veggies mixture a bit more after they cook. This will allow you to get small pieces for a smaller dog without having them just become mush in the slow cooker.
Feel free to serve this over rice as well.
Serving Size – This makes about 10 meals for John John, about a week's worth of food. If you have a larger dog you can double or triple this recipe. If you have a smaller dog, you can half it as you shouldn't keep food for more than 5 days in the fridge. Use my chart How Much Homemade Food Should I Feed My Dog? for reference on how much to feed.
