Equipment

  • 8-ounce Ramekins
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Countertop Oven (optional, can use regular oven too)

Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons rolled oats
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil (melted)
  • 2 teaspoons raw honey
  • 1 apple
  • 2 tablespoons pumpkin puree
  • 2 tablespoons plain Greek yogurt

Instructions

  • In a small mixing bowl, add the oats, melted coconut oil, and honey. Mix together to coat the oats completely. Set aside.
  • Chop the apple into small pieces and add to a small mixing bowl. Add the pumpkin puree and stir to coat the apples. Transfer to an 8 ounce ramekin.
  • Top the apples with the oat mixture.
  • Bake at 350°F for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the oat mixture is toasted and golden brown. I actually do this in my countertop oven for ease, but regular oven also works.
  • Allow the apple crisp to cool completely. Add a dollop of Greek yogurt on top and serve to your dog. (If you have a small dog, make sure to only give them a small portion at a time).

Tips
  • I use my toaster oven for this because it’s so small, I don’t want to waste heating up the oven! But you could also use the regular oven too.
  • You can use any kind of apple that you buy for yourself. But John John really prefers the sweeter variety like Fuji, Gala or Pink Lady.
  • Your pup don't need spices like cinnamon or nutmeg and nutmeg is actually toxic to dogs, so ensure that apples are free of spices for this DIY treat!
  • If you have a small dog (like John John) this may be two or more servings of treats per ramekin. If you have a larger dog they may be able to eat this in one serving.
  • If you have more than 2 dogs, you can double or even triple this recipe to make more.
  • High Altitude — Follow the recipe as noted.
