My husband and I have a constant Instagram DM going where all we do is send each other reels or posts. We never type anything, but the reel or post is always one of three categories — Pugs, crazy food, or smart home items or ideas.

Recently he sent me some reel of someone melting American cheese and ground beef on tortillas and we immediately both looked at each other and said Cheeseburger Tacos. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, we’re usually sitting less than a foot away from each other on the couch when we send these DMs, haha!

So, here we are with simple Cheeseburger Tacos — just in time for Super Bowl! This is the best recipe for hamburger tacos. You can add cheese or you can leave them as classic hamburger tacos, but we are obsessed with Organic Valley’s American Cheese, so of course we added cheese!

Why You'll Love This Recipe

Twist on a Classic: This is a combination of two amazing comfort foods — tacos and burgers! This is the best recipe for hamburger tacos as it combines the best of both of these amazing foods.

Organic Ingredients: While this is an indulging meal, I'm still using organic ingredients so we're getting nutrients from the grassfed beef and all the veggies!

Flexible: You can add any kind of toppings you like, just like with burgers. So, mix it up and make them your own.

Pickles: Get your favorite organic pickles for a nice tang and crunch in every bite.

Cheese: I use Organic Valley American Cheese like on a traditional cheeseburger.

Lettuce: We love organic Romain lettuce for burgers, but spinach or mixed greens is also fine too.

Tomato: I use organic Roma tomatoes.

Yellow Onion: I use organic yellow onion for the grilled onions.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

To make the grilled onions: Slice the onion into thin slices. Add the butter into a large skillet over medium/high heat and let it melt to coat the pan. Add in the onions and sauté until onions are translucent and golden brown, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 2

To make the burger meat: In a large skillet, add the ground beef and salt and paper. Cook over medium/high heat until the ground beef is done, about 10 minutes.

Step 3

To make the tacos: In a large skillet, add a tortilla and ground beef. Put over medium heat, add a slice of American cheese on top and allow to melt while the tortilla warms and browns slightly. Top the taco with grilled onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles and condiments of your choice.

Tips

  • Grilled onions are optional, if you prefer raw, then skip this step and add them on at the end.
  • I use flour tortillas, but if you're gluten free, you can use corn too.
  • I chop the veggies, but you can also leave whole tomato slices or whole lettuce leaves as well, totally optional.
