If you are looking for the easiest Thanksgiving pie recipe, then this simple Apple Cinnamon Galette is it! Everyone at your Thanksgiving will love it!
1/4 cup plus 3 tablespoons cold water
227 grams (1 2/3 cups plus 2 tablespoons) organic all purpose flour, plus extra for rolling
1 teaspoon organic cane sugar
3/4 cup (170 grams) Organic Valley Salted Butter, cold
2 organic large Fuji apples
57 grams (1/4 cup) packed organic light brown sugar
28 grams (2 tablespoons) organic cane sugar
21 grams (3 tablespoons) organic all purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons organic cinnamon
1 teaspoon organic cornstarch
2 tablespoons organic heavy whipping cream
Organic turbinado sugar
- To make the crust: In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, add the flour and cane sugar. Turn the mixer on low for two to three rotations to combine the dry ingredients.
- Remove the butter from the fridge and chop into small cubes. The smaller the cubes, the flakier the crust. Cut the stick of butter into four and then chop into small cubes from there. Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Measure out the cold water and have it ready.
- Turn the mixer on low and slowly start to incorporate the ingredients. Gradually turn the mixer to medium speed. Once the butter mixture looks like wet sand, immediately add in all the water. As soon as the dough comes together, stop the mixer. Do not over mix.
- Form the dough into a disk and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill in the fridge for at least 6 hours or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- To make the filling: Slice the apples into thin slices, leaving the skins on.
- In a medium bowl, add the light brown sugar, cane sugar, flour, cinnamon, and mix together. Add the apples and coat to combine completely.
- On a floured surface, roll out the crust to 1/4-inch thick, about 10-inches in diameter. Place the prepared baking sheet.
- Place the filling on top of the rolled out crust, leaving about a 1-inch boarder. Fold the dough in to create a crust.
- To make the topping: Add the heavy whipping cream into a small dish.
- Using a pastry brush, brush the crust of the galette with the cream. Sprinkle the crust with the turbinado sugar.
- Bake for 1 hour, then turn the oven up to 400°F and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Store in a cool dry place for up to 3 days.
- High Altitude — Bake at 350 for 45 minutes, then turn oven up to 400 and bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes or until golden brown.
