Why You'll Love This Recipe

John John and I made Dog Peanut Butter Banana Bites last week. And needless to say, he loves them! This homemade dog dessert is so easy to make! If you have wanted to know how to make dessert for your dog, you are in the right place.

Making a homemade dog dessert is very easy! It’s just like making a homemade dessert for yourself, but with ingredients that are safe for dogs to eat. You can take the guess work out of how to make dessert for your dog and follow this simple homemade dog dessert recipe!

I use a few simple ingredients in this recipe for Dog Peanut Butter Banana Bites. You probably already have these ingredients in your pantry at home! It starts with a banana and peanut butter, I add in coconut oil, eggs, flour, and baking powder – that’s it! You will have a homemade dog dessert in no time!

The best thing about these Dog Peanut Butter Banana Bites is you can cut them any size you want. Depending on the size of your dog, you may want to cut them into 16 squares, like a human blondie! I cut them into 64 tiny squares for the photos, but I actually cut each of those squares into 4 because John John is so small. So, this recipe really makes a lot of treats depending on how you cut them!

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 8 x 8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, mash up the banana with a fork. Add the peanut butter and stir (you can use a spatula, whisk or even a fork!) to combine.

Add the eggs and coconut oil and mix together.

Add the flour and baking powder and mix to combine completely. Transfer to the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.

Step 3

Bake for 12 minutes, or until puffy and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. (If you're baking at high altitude, be sure to check the Notes at the bottom of the recipe for high altitude baking instructions). Cut into 64 small bites (or larger ones if you have a larger dog).

FAQ's

How do you store these Dog Peanut Butter Banana Bites?

Because I got so many of these for John John, I put a small amount in a Tupperware. They should be in an airtight container so they stay moist, you can store them at room temperature or in the fridge.

You can also freeze them, if you have a small dog and get a large quantity, like I did. Just be sure to put them in an airtight container like a Tupperware or Ziploc bag before freezing. I’ve been pulling them out of the freezer as we run out of treats, as they thaw in minutes! You can store them in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Can I use crunchy peanut butter for this recipe?

Yes, if you only have crunchy peanut butter, you can use that in place of the traditional smooth peanut butter. The little bits of peanuts will be fine for your dog to eat so long as they can chew them! If your dog doesn’t have many teeth, and you are looking for a soft dog treat recipe, then don’t use a crunchy peanut butter. This homemade dog dessert is great for dogs who need soft treats as it’s just like a blondie where it’s soft and very easy for them to chew.
