Why You'll Love This Recipe

If you love my Everything Bagel Scones, then you will love these Cheesy Everything Bagel Scones! These are similar to my original Everything Bagel Scones recipe as they have everything bagel spice mix and cream cheese inside. But, in these Cheesy Everything Bagel Scones I add raw cheddar cheese and bone broth!

This recipe for Everything Bagel Cheesy Scones is an amazing savory bake for breakfast or brunch! I use Kettle & Fire Bone Broth in this recipe for added protein along with cheese and everything bagel spices! I love using bone broth in scones and quiche because it gives these pastries even more protein than just using milk! If you haven’t cooked or baked with bone broth before, read my article Benefits of Bone Broth and How to Enjoy It.

I like to serve these Cheesy Everything Bagel Scones with my Dill Cream Cheese Spread. You can serve them with butter, cream cheese, eggs, or my Homemade Pork Breakfast Sausage.

How to Make Cheesy Everything Bagel Scones

Step 1

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

To make the dough: In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, add the flour, cane sugar, baking powder, 1 teaspoon everything bagel seasoning, and sea salt. Mix on low to for 2 to 3 rotations to combine the dry ingredients.

Using a large grater, grate the butter and add to the flour mixture. Don’t mix yet.

Add the egg, cream cheese, 1/4 cup bone broth, and cheddar cheese, and mix on low to combine. You’ll have to scrape the bowl to help combine the dry ingredients, and I find it’s easier to finish combining with your hands.

Step 3

Using your hands, form the dough into a round disk that is about 7-inches in diameter. Using a sharp knife, cut into 6 triangle pieces like a pie. Separate the pieces so they are spaced evenly apart.

Step 4

To make the topping: In a small dish, add the 2 tablespoons of bone broth. Using a pastry brush, brush the tops and sides of the scones to coat completely. Top with the additional everything bagel seasoning.

Step 5

Place the baking sheet in the fridge for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 400°F.

Step 6

Bake for 20 to 24 minutes or until lightly golden brown on the bottoms. Allow to cool completely on the baking sheet. (Be sure to follow the directions for high altitude at the bottom in the Notes!).

Tips for Making Cheesy Everything Bagel Scones

• I use salted butter in this recipe. If you only have unsalted butter, you can use that instead, just add 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the recipe.

• I use Kettle & Fire Chicken Bone Broth in this recipe. If you don’t have this, you can use chicken broth or milk, both will work! I love using bone broth though because it has more protein and health benefits! Be sure to use my discount code, MIMIBAKESCOOKIES for 20% off your Kettle & Fire!

• I use Raw Farm Shredded Cheddar Cheese in this recipe. And I’m always preaching to grate your own cheese! Check out my article 5 Reasons to Grate Your Own Cheese. But, Raw Farm doesn’t use any stabilizers in their shredded cheese! This is a big deal and why I will use their shredded cheese! Stabilizers are almost always added to shredded cheese (even organic ones) to prevent caking or clumping. But, they can upset your stomach, and that’s why I avoid them as I don’t think they are necessary, when you can easily just grate your own cheese!

• If you want to add even more cheese, sprinkle it on top of the everything mix on top of the scones for even extra cheesy scones!

• Be sure to store these in a cool dry place. Don’t store scones in an airtight container because they will get soggy.

• You can reheat or crisp up scones in the oven or toaster oven!

• Try serving these Cheesy Everything Bagel Scones with my Dill Cream Cheese Spread!

Why go organic?

You may be wondering why I push organic ingredients for everything, even savory and healthy dishes. Organic ingredients go beyond just health and wellness, and contribute so much to the taste and flavor of a recipe. So, if you think that you're making something healthy and buying fruits, veggies, or meats so maybe you don't need to spend the extra to go organic here – let me sway your thinking.

Organic ingredients are made in a more pure way, therefore using no additives, no GMOs, and minimal ingredients. This really allows the true ingredients to shine – and because of that their flavor shines through. Therefore, organic ingredients are more flavorful than their non organic counterparts. So, just because it's already a healthy recipe, or you're already buying good for you ingredients – it doesn't mean you can skip organic! Trust me here, and make the switch. Your body and your taste buds will thank you!

So, I highly recommend that you buy the best organic ingredients for this recipe! You can also shop my Amazon Storefront for all my favorite organic ingredients here. Tip – hover over each ingredient to see the name. And if you want to learn more about organic foods and the difference, read my post here on Food Labels and What They Mean.
